Title: Sweden...without swedish!
Post by: chrissiecruiser on Saturday 25 January 14 04:06 GMT (UK)
 :-\ Hi there all,
I have recently joined a Swedish Ancestry site..... Arkiv......and I feel that all the info is available but do not seem to be able to search by the person's name.   It has been just luck that I found the household examination for my family. Does anyone have a hint for me?
Cheers
Chris

Hi, I have done a lot of swedish research and do you realise that if your father was Johan Larsson then that means he is the son of Lars something or other. Such as  he could be the son of Lars Hakaanson and Lars could be the son of Hakaan Eriksson. So it goes on.
If you have a  name and date you will probably be best to write to the Swedish Archives at Landsarkivet at Vadstina. Also the household examination rolls give dates of birth and dates of death and when moved from parish and date of  emigration and to where. You soon learn to read them. Good luck

Hi Chris,
Knowing where a person came from ie the parish he was born in is almost an absolute necessity to be able to continue. You said you use Arkiv, do you mean Arkivdigital?
But you seem to have been lucky. If you have found the right page in the household records then you will hopefully be able to see where the father and mother of this family were born and so on. It is just a matter of going through all the information written on this page and find the appropriate birth, death, marriage book etc to continue.
I hope I have helped.
If you need help just ask. I use Arkivdigital daily.

G'day to you all,

Thankyou for your hints, I have learnt about the names, and fortunately my men have just swapped the names around a bit back several generations!

I am having trouble understanding the Swedish headings and therefore the parishes etc. But I will do as you suggest and email them with my queries.

Cheers,
Chris

Wow! thanks jamcat...Ian, yes I think I have two of my men mixed up with their deaths.

The first one, my GGGrandfather, Carl Erlandsson Berg b.18 March 1809 Falun, Kristine, married Johanna Bjorkman 1/2/1842. His death was given to me by another researcher as 8/8/1857 from Cholera in Uppsala, Uppsala.

Then his father Erland Carlsson Berg b. 1/12/1785, Falu?? Kristine. He married Christina Knifstrom 15/9/1807, and died 8/9/1857 Uppsala, Domkykro. Also from Cholera. Can you tell me if this is correct?

I do not have much info on Erland, were household examinations in place then?

Christina Knifstrom, my GGGGrandmother is also a mystery, I have only 1771 as her birthdate and her marriage to Erland Carlsson Berg.

I have found only two children of Christina, Carl Erlandsson Berg...my line... and Daniel Erlandsson Berg, b.22/9/1812 Falun and Christened 27/9/1812, Christine, Kopparberg.

Can you tell me if this is right?

Cheers :)

Hi
There was only 1 date that was incorrect....

Carl Erlandsson Berg born 18 March 1809 in Falun Kristine. Baptized 19 March 1809.
He married Johanna Björkman 1 Feb 1842 in Uppsala Domkyrka.
Carl Berg died 10 Sept 1857 in Uppsala Domkyrka of cholera.

Carl was a master coppersmith.

Looking at the occupations of your ancestors I noticed that they all worked in the copper mine in the area.....
