Title: pls recommend book on Austro-Hungary
Post by: philipsearching on Friday 24 January 14 23:11 GMT (UK)
Does anyone know of a good history book (available in English) on the Austro-Hungarian empire in the early 20th century and its collapse following the Great War?

There are many books available on the history of the British empire, France, Germany and Russia in the first 20 or so years of the 20th century but I haven't yet found one dealing with Austria-Hungary.

E Crankshaw "The Fall of the House of Habsburg"
A J P Taylor "The Habsburg Monarchy"
A Sked "The Decline and Fall of the Habsburg Empire 1815-1918"

These are all on my shelves, and probably still in print, but I haven't even dipped into them since I retired from teaching history ;D

That was quick!

Thank you ever so much for your suggestions.  I have never got on with AJP Taylor's writing style so I will see if my favourite book sales websites have got Sked or Crankshaw.

Once again, Mr Mohican, sir, my grateful thanks.
