Title: Hartlepool resources apart from the central library
Post by: nomie on Sunday 19 January 14 14:41 GMT (UK)
I am coming to Hartlepool to do some research, my family were mostly in the ship building trade and am wondering if any one local can suggest other places of interest and information? thank you

The Museum of Hartlepool which is part of Hartlepool's Maritime Experience is well worth a trip for a general feeling of the area but isn't providing resources as such. I'd also like to know about other archives for Hartlepool!

You could always try Durham, Teesside or Northallerton or Redcar Archive. Unfortunately as Hartlepool has been in a push-pull in boundaries/councils over the last 40 years the Archives have been split up and as a result, sometimes you never know where to start. All the Archives should get everything on the Internet but they'll only say they haven't the man-power or resources. In Hartlepool the Central Library is usually the best place to start but they do have some stuff in the back that you can be privy to if you ask nicely. Good Luck.
