Title: Salmon / Salmond - Glover Vermont - 1844
Post by: Craigellachie2019 on Sunday 19 January 14 12:47 GMT (UK)
My second great Grandfather was Peter Salmond, born in Balfron, Stirling Scotland in 1820. His father was George Salmond and his mother Jane Cuthill (Cuthel).  One of Peter's brothers John, apparently emigrated to Vermont in 1844 on the ship James Moran with his wife Jane Crawford (married in 1836 in Renfrew Scotland) together with their four children, George, John, Jane and Matthew.

If anyone can throw light on the family it would be appreciated.

Thank you
Anne

Since you've posted on the U.S.A. board it sounds as though you want details of John in America?

Exactly what sort of information are you looking for and where have you already searched? (so that we don't duplicate what's been found)

Death for John Salmon (1881) mentions both parents- https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XFFW-5NY

Thank you for your reply. I was hoping any descendants of John may know more about George and Jane and the rest of the family including my line through their son Peter. I know he married a Janet Forsyth but she died after a couple of children one of whom was my Great Great Grandmother. He later remarried a Jane Aitken née Gartshore and his family including a granddaughter Jessie Haddow came to Australia in 1886. I understand this may not have been going to be a permanent arrangement and some of the family were back in Scotland in early 1900s - peter senior's wife Jane and some sons one of which being Peter junior but I haven't found Peter senior with them nor his death there or in Australia so its a mystery. I wondered if there had been any correspondence between family members the contents of which may have been spoken about and handed down. Small chance I know but I have to ask. Peter junior's wife and all their children died in Australia. It appears Peter junior may have remarried in Scotland but again - unsure. Peter senior's granddaughter Jessie remained in Australia married a Scot from Brechin and was my Great Grandmother.
Thank you for the information you have given and anything else you can provide.
