My 5xgt grandmother Jane Northcott died in Launceston Union Workhouse in 1879. At a quick search, I found a website that said that few records survive and linked to the place where the records are archived. I wondered if anyone here has actually searched the archives and has a better idea of what does and does not survive? This is the second of my relatives to have been in the workhouse and appears to be the second time no records survive for her stay.
Thanks.

was it this site you were looking at?

You could also search the Record Office catalogue online. There doesn't seem to be anything for aound the time you're looking at.

Thanks. Yes, that was the site. What a shame I'm getting no records again... I bet if I was famous and on WDYTYA they could magic some up from somewhere, they always seem to ;D

Jane is also my 5th grandmother. The Northcotes came to Scotland around 1866.

Hi.
I have also looked in the past, but little is known. What I can tell you is that it was on the current Tesco site & there's a Facebook Launceston History page that might be of interest to you.
