Title: Maud Seymour Dittmer 1883 - 1913
Post by: lind1799 on Friday 10 January 14 13:33 GMT (UK)
Hi, can anyone help me please. I am researching my family history and have come up against a wall. I am looking for information of the death of Maud Seymour Dittmer (nee: Lindop) in 1913. She died with her 2y.o son George apparently on the same day. The deaths were registered on the same GRO sheet on September 1913 at Prescott where they lived. Have tried registering with Liverpool echo but not on the 3 pages I chose. Unfortunately house bound due to illness so a trip to Liverpool records not viable. Her husband was Christopher Fredrick (Fred) Dittmer who died on the SS Verdi torpedoed in August 1917 and is on the roll of honour in Liverpool cathedral. Any suggestions?

Not sure what sort of information you are looking for, but the starting point will be to buy a copy of her death cert.
That will tell you when and where she died, cause of death and name of informant.
Can  be ordered from www.gro.gov.uk using the details from the GRO index

she was 30 when she died...dittmer  death 1913 sept qtr only shows Maud B Dittmer - no George
James Stanley Dittmer aged 0 in dec qtr 1901   Prescot ...is the only other I could find ??

www.freebmd.org.uk only has those 2 deaths in Prescot - where did you get the info about George ??
he is born George H Dittmer in sep qtr 1911 in Prescot mmn is Lindop...but I can`t see a death for him or a marriage - so where did he go ??.....

the marriage was in june qtr 1905  Maud Seymour Lindop to Frederick C Dittmer on freebmd
www.lancashirebmd.org.uk has this in 1905

DITTMER   Frederick C   LINDOP   Maud S   West Derby, Register Office or Registrar Attended   Liverpool   REG_WD/221/97...
1881 census
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XQDH-KNS

so now I am totally confused -
MAUD SEYMOUR LINDOP married Frederick Christopher Dittmer in Liverpool 1905
MAUD B DITTMER is the death in Prescot in 1913 aged 30 ...I think these are TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE ?
I am going to check what year Maud Seymour Lindop was born ...it should be 1882/83 ...be back soon

Births Sep 1883
LINDOP    Maud Seymour        W. Derby    8b   319   the age is spot on ...I wonder if freebmd has mistranscribed Maud B  and it should read Maud S ??????
still doesn`t answer why there is no death for George H Dittmer ...?

Hi,

This is possibly George:

George H   DITMER  SeptQ 1913   Prescot  8b   829   (age 2)

and Maud:

Maud S  DITTMER  SeptQ  1913  Prescot  8b  832  (age 30)

Which suggests that the deaths were not registered at the same time.

Thanks Nanny Jan - never thought to look with only one T ...only 2 records in between them both ?

Deaths Sep 1913
Dittmer    Maud B    30    Prescot    8b   832   copied of freebmd - where did you get yours that says
Maud S Dittmer ??........this looks like a mistranscription on freebmd to me ?

I found details on FreeBMD and FindMyPast and looked at original image;  the "S" is not very clear.

829 and 832 refer to the page numbers and not the individual entry.

Christopher Frederick Dittmer, the son of Johann Heinrich Dittmer and Katharina Margaretha M Heuer who married Maud Seymour Lindop wiggled their way into my research only yesterday.

Dittmer is a German name and has often been wrongly transcribed, i.e. Dettmer - Dettmar, etc.

There is a George William Dittmer born to this couple but he seemed to have lived to a ripe old age.

I am in the midst of cooking but will come back to this tomorrow morning after taking Buster for his constitutional.

A few dozen Dittmer/Dettmar entries at  www.mawer.clara.net/sugardd.html  .

Both Christopher and Henry Dittmer in Liverpool 1880s/1890s.

Christopher Dittmer, born Germany, was and engineers labourer, he and his wife Margaret had a very large family,

Mary their daughter is living in Ascot Street in 1881 ,where her father was described as a labourer in the  sugar house, I am sure you have this information already ,

Here he is:

Deaths Sep 1913   (>99%)
~~~~~~~~
Ditmer
George H
 2
 Prescot
 8b
829
I found him first on Ancestry where his age at death is given as 2 and checked back with BMD.
His birth on BMD:
Births Sep 1911   (>99%)
~~~~~~~~

DITTMER

 George H

 Lindop

 Prescot

 8b

1426

What a difference a "t" makes!

There is a Tree on Ancestry which could be yours as the death date for little George is not given.

There is also his father's death on Findagrave, stating he was in the Mercantile Marines as Assistant Steward, died on 22 August 1917 and is buried at the Tower Hill Memorial in London.

What a sad story
