I came across a curious Death record of Charles Sylvanus Mack. He died Apr/May/Jun of 1875 in the Bradford on Avon district of Wiltshire age 80. That makes him born abt 1795. I can find nothing more about him. Why I am so interested is that my Grandfather and Great Grandfather were both called Sylvanus Mack and wondered if this Charles is a relation. If anyone has got a spare moment to see if they can dig up anything on Charles Sylvanus Mack I would be most grateful.
All the best and Happy New Year to all

Hi anjo,
Happy new year to you.
I think you will find that Charles Mack was a boarder, un-married, aged 66, Clergyman and born in Westbury.
In the 1861 census he is recorded as Charles Meech (surnames first)
RG9/1298/26 P 20
Town; Bradford, Wilts;
others are Anne Carsh, 56. Esther Sainsbury, 70.
In the 1871 census he is transcribed as Charles Much, Lodger, un-married, aged 76, Clergyman .........., born Westbury
RG10; Piece; 1924. Folio; 34. Page; 8.
Town; Bradford, Wilts.
others are; Ann Caishe, 65, Elizabeth Robey, 70.
There is no mention of the name "Sylvanus" and I can send extract/copies if you would like them.

Thanks so much to both of you I think I have him smashed now. He's not a Mack at all. Just a typo. Ah well I'm blessed that you stopped my headache thanks so much for your help.

Hello,
I am interested in the names Sylvanus Mack as my grandfather reckoned he came from a long line of Sylvanus Macks from Norfolk. However, my grandfather was an entertaining positive man and yet I do not believe his background. If anyone has any further information regarding this name combination I would be pleased to hear from you.
