Hi,

This is your family but the burial record for William & Dorothy is a bit of a mystery. Why do you connect them with Gosforth ?

16.09.1782   Hannah   William & Dorothy         Bapt   Egremont
27.01.1783   Ann   William & Dorothy                 Bapt   Egremont
24.07.1784   John   William & Dorothy                 Bapt   Egremont

25.12.1783   Ann   dau.of William          aged   1           Burs   Egremont
23.01.1784   Hannah   dau.of William      4           Burs   Egremont

Hannah - Ann barely 4.5 months between the 2 events! Or is one the PR the other BT?

In theory Parish Registers and Bishop's Transcripts should be identical.  In practice there may be errors in transcription.   In this case I would think the Hannah/Ann baptisms are because one was a few months old and the next one was newborn.    As Hannah was 4 when she died that gives a birth date of c1780 which fits with that conjecture.

Thanks so much for the help you have given me.What a surprise! I always thought there should have been more children in this family. Their son John is my 2xgreat grandfather in a direct line. I am aware that Williams death was published in The Gentlemans Mag 1832 V152 Pg189 aged 80yrs,as father of John Vicar of St Johns Kirk Merrington.Iam trying to find if he may be buried in the same church grounds as John.Dorothy is a mystery as you say but I put in Gosforth as the record I have suggests she was born there. When and if did they go to Durham? Is Dorothy buried in Durham? So many questions. As I live in New Zealand  I must do all my research on line and any help is greatly appreciated and being very new to this am amazed at what help is available. Again Many Thanks.yhout.

Yhout,

Thank you for your comments especially the fact that the family left Egremont for pastures new.

I cannot find a William Tyson that would fit in with a birth year of 1752 or thereabouts either in Egremont or the surrounding area. Researching Tyson in West Cumberland is a thankless task because of the number of Tyson families through out the area.

I can add the the son Richard was a Spirit Merchant in Egremont and had a wife named Ann.

For those who commented on registers and BT's then at this time there are only BT's available as there is a Register missing for Egremont - so no Bapts, Mars or burials except from the BT's

Nev and anyone else interested in the Tyson -Southward family. I can only agree with you in the difficulty in searching for this family.I would be very happy if someone could find a family that is Williams, but after spending some time mulling over the names you have given me and further information I havefound I am wondering if you might give consideration to a scenario I will put forward to you or anyone else interested in this family. I have for some time been wondering if a William Tyson who married Ann Langley (Longley) 15th Jan 1742 may be our Williams parents?     My reasons being the use of family names  in the next generation.                                            The Southward family, Father John Mother anne ,children Mary 22 May 1743     Thomas 18 May 1749      Dorothy 9 June 1750 our Dorothy,       Isaac    1751,      Abraham 1754                         At present the only family I could put forward  for  William and Anne Tyson would be our William born about 1750. It seems in those times families repeatedly used the same family names for generations. My thinking is that William and Dorothy like others used their family names being :      John Ann William and Thomas, being 4 of the 6 of their children named from these families.           As yet I have been unable to find any family for William and Ann but maybe Dorothy and Williams other 2 childrens names are the clue. WHAT DO YOU THINK?    Do you have a connection with the  Tyson or Southward families .                       Regards yhout.

Yhout,

I have no personal interest in the Tyson or Southward families, or indeed in any Cumberland family. My interest centres on the Family & Local histories of the Wasdale & Eskdale valleys and the immediate surrounding area.

With all this discussion on Tyson to see if it extends to the name Creighton?
My Timothy Creighton born 1819 Gosforth and he married Hannah Tyson in Whitehaven in 1841.
Hannah was christened in Muncaster 6.11.1817. They moved to Melbourne and died in 1878/1880 in Doreen and Woodstock. Tim buried in Preston.

Hello Sandra,
your material is right on the money.
The Timothy Creighton is my GGGUncle.
I was hopeing to tap into the Tyson connection.
The Charles Craiton/Creioghton was born in Donegal - sadly I cannot get past him.
He is my brickwall.

cheers

A few possibilities - things to work with  ??? It looks like the parents of Hannah Tyson were a James Tyson and Mary

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:J3BW-ZVN

Marriage 26 July 1802 - James Tyson and Mary Johnson

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NXV5-X8X

A possible birth for James Tyson 10 July 1778 baptism 13 July 1778  Muncaster - Father Joseph Tyson and Mother Isabella.
