Title: Birth record after 2005/6
Post by: isy on Friday 27 December 13 10:47 GMT (UK)
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to access birth records later than 2006 - it seem that on Ancestry they done go beyond this?

Many thanks

Isy

You can in Scotland if you go to Scotlands People in Edinburgh or the Mitchell Library as they run a Scotlands People search room ..Don't know about the English records but I would think it would be the same

No national BMD indexes for any date from 2006 are available on-line. The only place you will find such indexes are at
Birmingham Central Library
Bridgend Reference and Information Library
The British Library
City of Westminster Archives Centre
Newcastle City Library
Manchester City Library
Plymouth Central Library
Certain Local Authorities have later indexes on line.

This is what FindmyPast have said, and I assume it will  apply to Ancestry and all other sites.

The General Register Office was part of the Office of National Statistics, but has recently become part of the Passport Office. Owing to the view that the Passport Office takes on this information, it has been decided that it should no longer be made public in such a manner. No further BMD indexes for any date after 2006 will be added to the website as a result of this.

They would have to go to the libraries that hold the indexes.

Just a thought - and I don't know the answer.

If you intended buying a copy of such a recent birth cert - would the GRO allow it without asking questions as to the reason for purchase given the possibility it could be used for fraudulent purposes?

You will be prompted to supply further details for more recent births and deaths (within the last 50 years) as you complete the online application form.

Thanks Stan

I had checked the GRO website before posting as I was sure it must have some info re: identity/other fraud etc but didn't see that
