Title: Park Prewitt Hospital / Park Prewitt House
Post by: lpeng on Thursday 26 December 13 22:05 GMT (UK)
I don't know if anyone would be able to help me.
I'm looking to find out if Park Prewitt House and Park Prewett Hospital are the same place . As on my Great Grandfathers death certificate it states he died at Park Prewitt House of Paralysis of the insane . I know Park Prewitt was a mental hospital but I'm confused as I cant find any reference to Park Prewett house .

Lisa,
According to the Wikipedia article:
"The land on which Park Prewett Hospital stands was originally part of the Park Prewett Farm. Park Prewett [Prevet] was an enclosure dating back to the time of Edward I.[2] The Farm occupied a triangle bounded to the south by the A339, to the east by the A340 and on the north west by Rooksdown Lane, the old Roman road."

For more information there does seem to be a book; 'Park Prewett Hospital -The History 1898-1984 by Dilys Smith'

There are several copies of this book in Hampshire libraries, but most of them can only be read in the libraries.  A few may be borrowed and your local library would be able to get a copy sent to them for you (for a very small charge)  if you live in England.
