I have searched but cannot find a marriage certificate for my Great Great Grandparents.
Their children were Ellen B1859, Alice B1864, Thomas B1866, frederick B1869, Albert B1871and Ann also B1871. Both William and Sarah were bern in Birmingham Warwickhire, william abt 1835 and Sarah abt 1839.
Thanking in advance,

Hi CaroleW,
Yes I have seen this cert before but thought it to be another couple as Sarah's parents i thought were John Mills and Hannah Parker.
Also I have found no evidence of William being geotge William or Sarah being Sarah Ann.
A case of simple name dropping perhaps or is there another certificate as yet unfound?

It looks a highly likely find to me.
Especially with the occupation of "painter", which agrees with the 1861 entry.
-
And also agrees with his occ in 1871 - house painter
The 1871 has all the children you mention in your opening post so I can't see how it can be anybody else
As you were unaware of his first christian name - perhaps you have researched the wrong person hence different parents
-
I have always known William and Sarah by these names only. I have their daughter Alice's marriage certificate which shows only those names. I also have a photo given to my Dad by his aunty that states their names just as William and Sarah Nottingham.

William the painter and wife Sarah Ann certainly have a daughter Alice, but the but the christening doesnt tie up with the year of birth you gave in first post?
Christening
St Clement, Nechells
9 Dec 1877
Alice Nottingham dtr of William amd Sarah Ann, painter, of Nechells Park Road.
Now .... Where was your couple around this time?
PS This couple in Nechells aslo have an Albert chr at same Church on 8 Aug 1866, dob given as 10 May 1866, address then Long Acre. Still a painter.
-
And on 26 Jun 1878, same church, a William and Sarah Nottingham (indexed Nothingham) , he a painter, of Nechells Park Rd, have a job lot of christenings done -
Ann Marie, Albert, Alfred, Thomas, and George William. Shame no birth dates given.
-
The 1861 entry has no daughter Ellen b 1859 - but the 1871 entry does. There is then a 5yr gap to Alice aged 7 so b 1863/4
The 1871 also has a 17yr old George Mills shown as "uncle" b Birmingham
Freebmd has no birth reg for Ellen as Mills or Nottingham but many births went unregistered around that time
Perhaps finding Ellen in 1861 would help but I've had no luck so far

This one is giving me nightmares. If they are the same family why would they christen Albert twice? First in 1866 and then again in 1878? Pointless question really. I have researched Sarah Mills and George Mills, her brother and have only ever found the two with siblings being children of John and Hannah Mills. Not William Mills as shown in the Nottingham marriage cert. I found George Mills living with the Nottinghams in the 1871 and 1881 census........oh dear, under my nose all the time. I have a George Mills living with John and Hannah Mills in both the above census's.
I guess I'm going to have to do some back tracking.

I would imagine either
a) the first Albert died and they re-used the name
b) they had forgotten they had had him done, and included him in the job lot
Or
C) it is a different couple, it is a different address.

It could be that Ellen was at someone else's home on the night of the 1861 census. I went back and found the photo that my great aunt had given my father and got a surprise. Great Aunt Ellen had written on the back of the photo stating the people in it were Wlliam Henry and Sarah Ann Nottingham of Birmingham.
Another thought occurred to me. This is a photo taken in England. Does Rootschat have a lost persons programme? Somewhere where people can place pictures and have others identify the people in the photo? Someone else in Warwickshire must have a copy of this photo I am sure. I believe i know the reason it was taken. William died 3 days after it was taken and I feel the family took it so as to have a physical memory of him after he passed. Fanciful speculation I know but a photo and a death so close together has me thinking. Thoughts anyone?
