Post by: mike04 on Thursday 19 December 13 13:49 GMT (UK)
I am trying to confirm some new info that someone has informed me of. It would be the HUYTON surname of a relative's spouse. Here is some info:

In the 1861 census:

RG9 2807/91 Page 36 Green St, Farnworth:
John Birchhall [sic], Head, Mar, 39, Spinner Cotton Mill born Lancs Wigan
Ann Birchhall, Wife, Mar, 38, born Lancs Newton
John Birchhall, Son, 5, Scholar born Lancs Bolton
Henry Birchhall, Son, 1, born Lancs Farnworth
Margret Birchhall, Daur, 14, Weaver in Cotton Mill born Lancs Wigan
Ellen Birchhall, Daur, 11, Scabinger in Cotton Mill born Lancs Bolton
(This is the order that they appear on the census image)

In the 1851 census:

HO107 2211/382 Page4, Great Moor Street, Great Bolton:
John Birchall, Head, Mar, 28, Spinner (Cotton) born Lancs Wigan
Ann Birchall, Wife, Mar, 27 born Lancs Newton
Margaret Birchall, Daur, 4 born Lancs Wigan
Ellen Birchall, daur, 10 months born Lancs Bolton
.............................................................................................

This is the new info I have found. The HUYTON surname is the new info.

Birth:   1861 - Bolton, Lancashire, England
Death:   Jan 31 1936 - Chicago, Cook, Illinois, USA
Parents:   John Birchall, Ann Birchall (born Huyton)
Siblings:   Margaret Birchall, Margaret Huyton Birchell, Joseph Huyton, Ellen Birchall, John B Birchall, Frances Birchall

......................................................................................

I haven't done any research for a few years and I've lost all my links when I changed computers so I thought I would post the info here.

Can anyone verify that John Birchall's wife was actually the former Ann HUYTON?

Thanks

Mike

There is a marriage for an Ann Huyton Jan/Feb/Mar 1846, Wigan, but no John Birchell on same page.

Getting a birth cert for one of the children will confirm Anns maiden name.

I also had her figured as a Flemming but couldn't confirm it. That was several years ago, then I received the Huyton info.

I'm wondering if the gap between the ages of the children might indicate that John may have married two different Ann's.

I can't research this myself for a few days. I'm rusty at this and don't have the time until after Christmas.

Siblings: Margaret Birchall, Margaret Huyton Birchell, Joseph Huyton, Ellen Birchall, John B Birchall, Frances Birchall[/b]

I don`t know where you found the above information, but someone with a tree on Ancestry appears to have combined two different families.  Ann Huyton born St. Helens had two illegitimate children - Margaret and Joseph.  In the 1861 census of St. Helens they are living with a John Birchall born St. Helens.  Ann is listed as married, born St. Helens, but there doesn`t appear to be a marriage for them.  On the 1871 in St. Helens, census there are just the two of them and they don`t have a son Henry.

So, I think I would totally disregard this as a red herring.
