Title: help with brickwall please if possible
Post by: a-l on Tuesday 10 December 13 13:39 GMT (UK)
I have been stuck for years with Edward Marsden / Marston who married Dorothy Searson at Queniborough 12 th June 1757. Witnesses were Thomas Searson and Thomas Hubbard. I am not sure (if it's the same Edward ) whether he married twice or three times at Queniborough.      I have been unable to find his birth c 1733 or his parents.                                               I would dearly appreciate any help or information please.

Both the Marriages are on FreeREG 1757 to Dorothy SEARSON and 1775 to Ann HILL
Unfortunately it does not state if he was a Widower.

Baptisms to EDWARD/DOROTHY, Queniborough;
EDWARD, 27 Feb 1761
ANN, 26 March 1766
SAML, 30 July 1768
THOS, 27 May 1770
(Familysearch.Org)

Then we have same pace to EDWARD/ANN;
ANDREW, 28 June 1778
(Familysearch. Org)

As Edward/Ann seem to have only I Child I think it is entirely possible it may be a second Marriage for Edward.
But a Burial for Dorothy needs to be found 1770-1775 to prove it.

Hopefully someone can help you :)

I looked  on the Leicester Parish Registers and Dorothy was buried 12th June 1770 at Queniborough.

There are 6 children listed as baptised to Edward and Dorothy all in Queniborough.
John 19th June 1757
William 15th April 1759
Edward 22nd Feb 1761
Ann 26th March 1766
Samuel and Thomas both 30th July 1768.

Samuel buried 16th April 1769
Thomas buried 29th April 1769

Edward married again to Ann Hill 7th November 1775

Their is only one son listed for them Andrew 28th June 1778

Ann was buried 21st November 1796 and Edward 30th April 1798 described as a labourer

hope this helps

Angie

No problem Sue, I think that you have a very good case that this is your family, I would look at the marriages for the extended family to see if you can tie any of the witnesses into your search

Thankyou , have done so.                                                                                                     Regarding my pm this is the information I have trying to connect this family.             For other readers my ancestor is William b 1759 unknown died Birstall 1831 aged 72. Edward is the most likely candidate for Edwards father but I haven't been able to find evidence or for their origins.               An online tree has them being from Nottingham and William married to

I have checked the Nottingham marriage and that William seems to be 5 years younger than mine. Also checked two other possible William candidates one at Barkby but he married Mary Doubleday and one born Leicester 1760 but he died as an infant.                                                  Will be eternally grateful for any help please .

Thankyou Marg I wondered if Thomas is a brother too . I knew Ammalishe came from the Kilby side , there were 2 or 3 with various spellings. However I can't remember if the one you mention is a sister of Mary . It is twelve years since I was last capable of visiting LRC.

Hi Marg there wasn't a date of birth only aged 72. The baptism of Edward's son William was 15 april 1759 that was the only one to be likely. Knowing his age could be out at his death and not knowing his age at baptism proved difficult.

I asked LRO for a copy of the marriage of Thomas Marston and Mary Kilby but they did not marry in Leics . So no luck with the witness search. I have one last idea if someone would be kind enough to help me. That is to find a death for Catherine Marston nee Prole in Queniborough before 1783 to see if she was a first wife of William.                                                      I will be so grateful for this information.

This is like an itch you can't scratch !         I have found a little info about Joseph Smith a witness to William and Mary's marriage at Birstall. He married Dorathy Kilby of Queniborough sep 25 1816 in Birstall. So she's probably related to Mary   (Kilby) , Mary's father was George and Dorathy's Richard.                                        I haven't found anything regarding William's siblings and hope someone can help me with their marriages for any extra information please.
