? a choice of Mary Ann Davies or Frances Ellen Fisher

Her first child was born in 1899 in Cardiff was Emily Jane Powell.
Emily must have been born c1889-90 (rather than 1899) I think, as she's 11 in 1901. Perhaps as Davies if she predated the marriage?
Emily's younger brother William Silvanus b c 1890 Cardiff may be helpful given his unusual middle name.
Added - yes: William Silvanus Davies born Dec qtr 1890 Cardiff looks promising.

There's an interesting family in Cornwall in 1891, at RG 12 / 1808/ 126/ 10
The head of household is Henry Gay aged 51.
Also in the household are his daughter Mary A Davies, a widow aged 26 from Pembroke Dock, and her two children, both born in Cardiff: Mary :-\ j. aged 1 and William S. aged 6 months.

Mary Ann Gay married William Silvanus Davies, 4q 1887, Cardiff 11a, 607

Thanks I will look at the 1891 in Cornwall.

Sadly, Buffalo on Windsor Place is just a bar which opened in 2005.
Would be interested to see "Buffalo" written down in case it's a transcription error or just a bad translation from the Welsh, but can't think where it might be. And I know Cardiff well. Thinking the "Alo" bit might be Alaw as in Trealaw but can't imagine the Buff bit sorry!

Birth: Mary Ann Gay, 3rd q 1864, Pembroke 11a, 698
Marianne [sic] GAY, daughter of Henry (labourer) and Mary, of Ringley-wells, was baptised at Cosheston, Pembroke on 18 September 1864.
The same couple, same details, had Sarah Jane GAY baptised on 17 August 1862.

But her birthplace in 1891 and 1871 is Pembroke Dock/Pembroke, not Cardiff.
I did suggest in reply #8 that her birthplace was actually Bufferland, which is in Pembroke Dock.
It occurs as a place-name in Pembroke Dock in the 1881 census.
Added: and in 1871

It definitely says Buffalo on the original 1901 image.
I suspect her husband asked where she was born, she said Bufferland and he wrote it down as Buffalo.
You can see Bufferland as a residential address on RG 10 / 5517 / 62 / 24
