Hi all,
I am planning to visit Ireland especially to Eyrecourt and Eyreville at Galway in 2014 as I am from Australia.
My 13th great grandparents of Eyre's was buried there.
I plan to visit Eyre Church as well.
Does anyone know how many cemeteries is there and can I check on line if available anyone who knows, would be grateful you please supply me information.

Hi Chris,
I'm not from Meelick-Eyrecourt, but I hope I can help. The place is full of history (see and is now a small village as opposed to the town it once was. There are only three or four graveyards in the area, but as I understand the Eyres were RC, you can assume you've only one place to visit. Have you clicked on Ireland XO as locals there will post and help. A local will tell you if they are buried in a private burial ground or in the local EC cemetary. East Galway is lovely and 'Eyrecourt Glebe' takes guests (not canvassing for business, don't know them but heard they were good) so you could stay local. Portumna is also lovely. Can you drive? Please say you can.... you'll need to be able to....

Yes, while some of the Eyres certainly were / are 'RC', the majority in more recent times indeed, the original Eyre settlers were 'EC' - Anglican, and 'sakdolan' is right that they are buried in the local EC cemetery located at the gates of Eyrecourt House. The inscriptions are available online, just search 'Eyre’s church, Eyrecourt'. As also so rightly said, it's a village just full of history.
