Title: Thomas and Tabitha Patience, Witney
Post by: jake55 on Wednesday 27 November 13 22:40 GMT (UK)
Does anyone have any info (over and above the census info) on these 2? - I would like to know date of marriage and Tabitha's maiden name particularly.  Thomas was b. 1791 d. 1831 and Tabitha b.1801 d 1854. Also their parents if possible.
Thanks
Jackie

Tabitha b.1801 d 1854.

A Tamor Patience died in 1854 but no death for a Tabitha.  It wasn't their daughter Tamor as she married before 1851

Thanks very much folks, I suspect Tabitha and Tamor/Tamar are one and the same.  If anyone could go any further back it would be much appreciated.

but watch out because..........................

BEW - Baptisms: Same CD Same church

22 March 1789 Tabitha d o William and Sarah

30 May 1787 Tamar d o William and Sarah

21 April 1793 Tamar d o William and Sarah

BEW - Burials; same CD and same church

1 April 1787 Tamar d o William and Sarah

7 Nov 1802 Tabitha d o William and Elizabeth - note on this day there was also a burial for Abednego BEW d o William and Elizabeth

11 July 1787 Phebe d o William and Elizabeth

There are so many records for both the BEW and PATIENCE families I would recommend you purchase the CD and unpick these families yourself which will be much more fun for you anyway?

Wow Nigel! That's extremely helpful. But as you say, it looks like a bit of a cat's cradle.

But at least it gives me lots to go on.

I'm very grateful for your (and everyone else's) help.

Nigel (or anyone else) - could you do me one further favour and look up the birth/baptism of Sophia Patience in 1831 in Witney and just check her parents for me?

Many thanks

Sophia was baptised at St Marys Church on 6 March 1831 d o Thomas and Tamar. His occ is entered as Tucker (which was in the woolen / blanket mills).

and of course as we know Thomas Patience married  at St Marys Church on 30 Apr 1811 to Tamar Bew who was entered as a Minor, so that helps sort out which of the Tamars who are in the baptisms?

Hi Nigel

Thanks very much for that.  This Tamar/Tabitha business is completely confusing though.  Why on earth was Sophia's mother called Tabitha in the 1841 census, if she's Tamar at Sophia's birth? Was she a stepmother or is it the same person? Aaargh!
