hello all wonder if someone could perhaps point me in the right direction on this one.
my grandfather was born on september the 8th 1900 at 78 cornwall street govan. his father was william millar ross and his mother was margaret ross nee feeney.
i know he married my grandmother in november 1919 a florence mary cussens. i know they emigrated to new zealand in around 1923/4 where my mother was born in 1925. and they returned to the uk in around 1928or not long after. some time around 1931 or so my grandfather dissappeared and i was led to believe from my mother that her mother had died and they were taken into care and were adopted to a family in banff north scotland.
my problem is i have tried to find a death certificate for eithe my grandfather or grandmother
that is arnold johnston ross or florence mary ross and dont know where to look next any advice suggestions greatly appreciated

Have you seen the family's shipping manifest entry when they returned back to the UK?
Arnold J Ross, 27
Florence Mary Ross 30
Margaret Florrie Ross 7
Donald Arnold Ross 6
Florence May Ross 4
Irene Dorothy Ross 2
Arnold James Ross 1
They show as travelling back from New Zealand. UK address is 192 Romford Road, Forest Gate, London. They arrived in Liverpool on 9 Sep 1928, on the 'Ballarat'.

From Scot's People which you can order a copy of the registrations.
1979 ROSS ARNOLD JOHNSTON Not Permissible M 71 GLASGOW, PARK CIRCUS GLASGOW CITY/GLASGOW CITY 621/00 0395
There is also this one:
1991 ROSS FLORENCE MARY Not Permissible SHAW F 86 KILMARNOCK /EAST AYRSHIRE 666/00 0440
But, the problem is her other name (which is normally the maiden name) being Shaw, however it is possible the informant may not have known this. You would need to order a copy to verify it is indeed the one you seek.

They look really promising entries, Don. Ages a bit out, but may be just the way things were.

Maybe the couple divorced when they got back from Australia?
There is this entry here www.nas.gov.uk/onlineCatalogue/
CS258/1969/3591 - 1969 - Catherine Daly or Ross v Arnold Johnston Ross: Divorce
There is a marriage for a couple with these names in Glasgow in 1961.
I also saw this entry and wondered, given how specific the male name is, how it connected to the more extended family members:
CS258/1970/4162 - 1970 - Arnold Johnston Ross Poole v Elizabeth Lauder Leggat or Poole: Divorce
All these records are open to view in Edinburgh or order.

There is also another Andrew Johnston Ross who I didn't mention because the date didn't fit the birth. I saw the NAS entry as well but associated it with the above.
