There appears to be an EVERSON with Lincolnshire And Dorset
connections in the form of a Charles Edward and Mary Jane
marriage listed in 1869 in the District of Weymouth.
One of the problems is the spelling of Mary Janes's last name.
So is the correct name Zealey, Zealy or Zelley, and
with Fleet connections is she a granddaughter of
HANNAH & JOSEPH with connections to names such as LOVELL,
PURCHASE & BOWRING

Presumably this was Mary Ann in 1861

Mary 13 Weymouth
Thomas R 8 Norfolk Yarmouth
William J 6 Weymouth
Maria S 3 Norfolk Yarmouth

... so she had moved to Lincolnshire. Coincidentally, this is only a mile or two from FLEET in Lincolnshire. Where was she in 1871?
Was Charles EVERSON the bloke in Spalding Gaol in 1881?
Charles EVERSON Prisoner M Male 33 Gedney, Lincoln, England Ag Lab
Re spellings: "correctness" in the spelling of names is a comparatively modern thing; if two illiterate AgLab brothers lived in different villages, their names would be entered in registers as a guess by each vicar. No spelling would be more right than the other. Then a new vicar moved in and the spelling changed again ....
The person whom we know as William Shakespeare has six known surviving signatures - ALL OF THEM DIFFERENT and NONE using the spelling Shakespeare!

In 1901, Charles & Mary were in Plymouth, Devon.
Charles was listed as 58 and born in Lincolnshire
Mary was 55 and listed as being born in Weymouth, Dorset
(However, the question is was she born in Fleet, Dorset while son George was born in Fleet, Lincoln.
So the real question re Lincoln years in the 1880's, was the Charles Everson doing time in the slammer, the same Charles Everson. Appears to be a three year age difference, unless the age was changed in error or on purpose.
Mary Jane (Zealey/Zelley) Everson was not the daughter of
Richard Zelley. His daughter was Mary Ann Emma Zelley
and her married name was WILLS. So, I don't know

I'm not sure which Mary we're supposed to be chasing any more!
1891
Old Orchard, Poole
Charles EVERSON (wid) 45 Pottery Foreman, Weymouth
Jane PARKES (houskpr/ldgr) 50 Twine spinner, Bridport
James EVERSON 17 Twine Spinner, Weymouth
Maud 13 Weymouth
Fred 12 Weymouth (obviously George Fred from 1881)
These are obviously the kids that were in Lincs in 1881.
-
I guess what we need is someone with a direct contact to an Everson family tree to come forward and sort out the Charles
Everson lads while the mystery of Weymouth's mother Mary
Zealey, Zelley or maybe Sealey could be sorted out on a Dorset thread,
i.e. The 1869 marriage of Mary to Charles.

I believe it is the Mary Jane daughter of Augustine Zealy/Zelley & Maria Bowring.

I'm fairly sure that the Mary Ann in 1901 census is actually Mary Ann Randall (born Weymouth c. 1847).
Charles's son George Frederick (Fred) was born in Hargate, Fleet (sub district of Holbeach) in 1880. Fred's mother is recorded as Mary Jane Everson (formerly Zealey).
Charles Everson & Mary Zealey were married at the Register Office in Melcombe Regis in 1869. Charles is in the 51st Regiment at the Barracks in Portland. Father's names are William Everson (dec'd) and Augustus Zealey (dec'd). Witnesses are Richard Zealey and Eliza Zealey.
Charles Everson was born 1847 in Gedney and was the son of William Everson and Eliza Everson (formerly Fields). Was he the guy in Spalding Gaol in 1881? Everything points to it. Pottery Foreman in Poole in 1891? Can't prove that he wasn't. General labourer in Plymouth in 1901? Certainly. Whereabouts in 1871 is still a mystery though.

Hi
I just noticed that you are looking for Zealley/Zeally/Zelly family members from the Weymouth area - I am too! My great, great, great grandmother was Martha Zealley who married William Richards of Bridport 15.7.1813 at Chickerell, Dorset. The witnesses were Edwd Curtis and Mary Zeally. (I found a subsequent marriage of Edward Curtis and Mary Zeally of Upwey 22.2.1816)
Apart from their children being baptised in 1814 (Bridport), 1817 and 1824 (both Poole), all I know of Martha is her marriage and would love to find her birth/ death and more of her family.
