Hello.. I have posted an interest in Charles Henry Smith cattle dealer of Gtknollys street Reading. before but with new Members am trying again.
He was my Grandfather, he married Ada Andrews of East Hagbourne Berkshire 1889 coming to Reading from that date. I have a good History of his life in Reading from that date until his death 1929 but WHO ? are his parents. marriage certificate shows only East Hagbourne. his fathers name Charles labourer. any help much appreciated

When and where did he say he was born on 1901 and 1911 censuses?

well this is the problem I have 1891 said Bristol then 1901/1911 Berkshire ?? in 1889 when he married he was 23 but in 1929 when he died he was 69 with the name Smith ???? and no address he lived at his marriage cant seem to get my head round it. I keep bypassing him and gather more family history on his Wife hoping I may bump into someone who knew him .

From the transcribed Hagbourne P/Rs
Marriage 13 January 1889 at Hagbourne
Henry Charles SMITH 23 b dealer Hagbourne father Charles Smith lab
Ada ANDREWS 20 Hagbourne father Joseph Andrews carpenter
Wit=Willie Mills/Edith Mills
I cannot see a baptism for Henry Charles at Hagbourne but this would seem to be Ada's
20 Mar 1868-Ada ANDREWS d Joseph & Elizabeth gardener

Yes, he's got to be out there somewhere.
But I dont see how we will ever pinpoint which is him. With a name like Smith, interchangeable Christian names between Charles and Henry, a variable date of birth and a variable place of birth, we will never be sure which of the many many possibles there must be in earlier censuses will be the right person.
Any more rellies mentioned in his Will? Siblings? Nieces or nephews?

What age is given in the censuses?
If he was 69 in 1929 that suggests he was born c1860 which would make him 28 in January 1889 (unless his birthday was before 13 Jan). Just thinking that 23 and 28 can be easily confused when transcribing if the original is faint or in careless writing.
