Title: Is there a problem with Ancestry?
Post by: Hampshire Lass on Tuesday 19 November 13 20:02 GMT (UK)
Is anyone else having problems with Ancestry tonight?

I tried to access it via the link on my favourites but couldn't connect with their site.

I tried the site which tells you if a website is down and it told me it was just me.

So I deleted cookies, switched my pc off and then started again. This time I got to their website but when I tried to log in it went back to the screen which says something like "detecting problems" or words to that effect.

If anyones got time please can you just check......perhaps it is down but if not I don't know what to do.

Hi,

You aren't the only one.    I get the message "Problem Loading Page".

They have been doing a lot of maintenance lately.

Cheers

Yes, there are messages on its FB page with people saying it is down.

This has been posted on http://www.isitdownrightnow.com/ancestry.com.html Click on the comments.

"just spoke to customer service...they are having website issues and know about the problem. Was advised to try logging in in about an hour..."

Aaaw thanks for checking everyone.  :)

Because the "is it down" site said it was just me I was getting worried.

I don't belong to Facebook but it's obviously useful for info like that.

Anyway, now I know it's not just me I'll have to find something else to do, till they get their act together again  :)

Thanks groom, that worked for me  :)

However I wasn't expecting to be logged in becasue I'd deleted cookies and although my trees are displayed and I am logged in, it's not displaying my user name. Bit strange, I thought.

Never mind and thanks so much for the link  :)

Thanks for the link.  Just don't click on the home tab as it falls over then. ;)

Edit - oops one search worked then the search tab fails ....

They appear to be trying to remove old search because initially when I clicked on groom's link, when I clicked search it worked.  Now if you click the search tab, it takes you to a different page which isn't working - http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/default.aspx.  This currently works - http://search.ancestry.co.uk/oldsearch/default.aspx - but for how much longer remains to be seen. ::)

When I go in on groom's link I still get old search when I do a search.

Have you got your search option set on old or new smudwhisk?

I've got it set to old search.  The first time I tried groom's link, when I selected search it took me to old search.  When I clicked it again, and every time since, it's taken me to the error page you get when you select the homepage.  It works if you select the link I posted previously.

I do hope they aren't trying to remove old search because even with the recent changes they've made to new search, and they weren't much, I still find it useless with many more clicks required to configure than old search. ::)
