Just to clarify, are you looking for his family in Scotland or New Zealand?

1905 marriage was in Hackney,London, England
Leslie was born Edmonton,London 1911
Donald was born Aston ,Birmingham 1917
so the family left England after 1917 ...
-
I'm currently researching the NZ connection although I am also keen to find out more about their lives before they left England. Thanks for your reply.
-
They left Southampton on 5/3/1921 on board 'Remuera'. Third child is listed as 'Gordon L.' so may have been known as Gordon.

I will move this thread to the New Zealand board as that is your main priority - you may wish to post a separate request for specific information in London or Birmingham.

Re Phyllis ... England/Wales Free BMD Birth index has. Phyllis Margery L LEIGHTON registration Apr-May-Jun 1907, Bristol. This is the closest information I have.
Re Kathleen J ... Thanks for this information. I now have a copy of Leslie Gordon McCondach Leightons death notice from the newspaper. Kathleen is married to Bill DOBLE. The only other persons mentioned are his wife Victoria Dawn and a Mrs Kane for communications. I have not found any other family notices.
I really appreciate the offers of help and information I am receiving. If it is possible for me to get a photo of the headstone at Purewa, I would be very grateful.

Hello,
I have PM'd a transcription of the death notice for Thomas Leslie LEIGHTON.
Also marriage details for his children, together with remarriage details for himself and Louise Katherine.
It is possible that the grand-daughter mentioned in the death notice for Thomas may be living in Auckland. See details in the New Zealand 'White Pages' website. I could check the current electoral rolls to confirm that we have the correct person, if you wish to take this further.
[As a living person we cannot reveal her name on this forum.]

I have PM'd the current address for the grand-daughter mentioned in the death notice for Thomas........
Minniehaha.
-
The name of the child of Thomas Leslie, born 1917 should perhaps be removed, as it is possible he is still living.........
See first post.
Also name in reply #15.

Hi
How are you? There is probably no link, but there seems to be a few connections so I thought I would add a few names to the mixture. I am descended from Margaret Leighton. Her parents are from the Angus/Forfar area of Scotland. We always thought he emigrated to NZ and that Margaret was born in Crete on the way. It would seem that almost all the siblings were born in Crete and Zante. Two of her siblings lived in Remuera and were both buried in Purewa!! James George Leighton died 19th August 1959 in Remuera and Johanna Fullerton Leighton in 25 Sept 1972. Any connections?

Hi Melanie,
I can have a look for the newspaper death notices for James George & Johanna Fullerton. Other family members may be mentioned which could be helpful to both you and Gobbolino?

That would be great minniehaha. I'm fairly certain I know the immediate family. My grandma is their niece and she was in the uk when Jo died. I'd need to check my records for James as my fwmily emigrated a couple of times. Bkth Jo and Jim were single and I've only recently discovered details about the generation above so who knows what the paper might say. There seems to be few Leightons around. Would be great to find more connections. I think their fatger's brither might have gone to new York so maybe some of the others came to nz.
Thanks
Melanie

Hi. I've not come across a connection to the Leighton's you mention but am certainly happy to make a note for future reference. Thanks for getting in touch! Gobbolino
