Need some help with a couple of photos. One is a tiny picture my Grandfather had of his dad, (My Great Grandfather). At this stage it is the only pic I have. The other is of an unknown person, (obviously). Are they the same person. I think they might be, but I am hoping they are, so I am not exactly objective. I have no dates for either. Great Grandfather was born 1870 and died 1947.

Comparing ears, eyebrows, chin (with dimple?) they look similar.
I've superimposed them to see what you think - the different camera angles mean they can't completely lay on top of each other and have everything match up but its worth a try.

I'm sure there is an interesting story behind these photos even if they aren't the same person! :)

I would guess that they are the same person.
The similarities that I see are:-
1. Strong chin with possible dimple - apparent in both photos.
2. General shape of face is long-ish - in both photos.
3. The man's left eye appears ever so slightly less wide-open than his right - both photos.
Pity we can't see both ears in both photos, apparently it's the ears which are usually a good guide for making comparisons.
EDIT: In the first photo, ie the older man...he looks like he has a good head of hair (as does the young chap) despite it not all being visible, but plenty at the sides. :-)

I think there is a good chance that these are the same person.

Hi, looking at the eyes and the chin in both photographs I think they probably are the same person.
Frank. :)

Just wondering if there is any possibility of someone giving a date for both photos to see if they fit in with the timeframe of your grandfather, Screwloose. There is a distinct possibility that they are the same person but whether or not there are enough clues for dates to be given is another matter.

This is what I know. George was born in 1870. My Grandfather was born in 1904. My Grandfather migrated to Australia in 1923 and I'm sure he brought the pic of the younger man with him as he never corresponded with his father.
This is what was on the back of the pic of the unknown man.

Those are football teams...
-
I knew they were football teams, this pic has been posted before. Someone said that one of the teams didn't come into the league until some date I cant remember but I put it up to help date the pic.
-
someone posted that Accrington Stanley didnt come into the league until 1921. So the second pic must be after that. George would have been 50-51 in 1921 so that sort of fits the pic too.
Would people be happy to say that it probably is more likely to be the same person thatn not??
I hate nagging doubt. LOL

I would like to post 2 photos to see if they are of the same person but don't know how to upload the photos

The list of eight teams on the right-hand side suggests "football pools" which didn't start till 1923. Another thing is that Derby County are above Sunderland, suggesting they were in the First Division. Following the start of football pools, this didn't happen till 1926.
Of course, if the list has nothing whatsoever to do with football pools, there is no reason to have a list of English and Scottish teams in that order. :)

Does the name of the photographer on the bottom give any clue, it is too feint to read.
