Can anybody help me find details of a 'Robert Carson' please? He was married to Mary Mason (b. 1822) in 1841 in Barony, Glasgow, Lanarkshire. I know they had at least one child and the son I have details for is James Carson born 1856 in Kilmarnock, Ayreshire.
Robert Carson died in 1971 in High Church, Glasgow, Lanarkshire and therefore did not attend his son's wedding in 1880 in Glasgow. Mary Mason remarried in Glasgow in 1873 to Ronald Reid and died in 1899.
I would dearly love to know when Robert Carson was born and who his parents are as he is my 3rd great-grandfather. I would also like to know if Robert and Mary had any other children. Maybe the 1861 census would have some usual information?

Family are most likely to be in Kilmarnock in 1861, going by childrens' births
I checked the index for 1851 for Glasgow (This index has no birth places)
I think this is them as it looks like Mary's father is with them.
Census taken Calton 598 enum dist 51 page 23
Robert Carson age 30
Mary age 28
Robert age 9
Elizabeth age 7
Mary age 3
John age 1
John Mason age 74
Robert's death cert should give his parent's name, provided they were known by the informant.

Wow! Thanks ever so much Liz ;D
*EDIT* Mary Mason's father according to her marriage certificate is John Mason so I agree this is probably the correct family. I'll definitely apply for Robert Carson's death certificate as I know the location and year. Thanks again.

Hi there,
I have a Margaret Carson born 1882, father Thomas Carson, possibly born 1846 Ayr. He married an Elizabeth Crombie, also from Ayr ( I obtained these datails from the IGI and from Margaret's marriage registry entry to her husband). I know that my Margaret Carson married Camillo Francesco Granelli in Glasgow in 1908. They had a son, same name as the father who changed his name during WW2 to Frank Carson, to avoid being interred as a traitor. His mother seems to have reverted to her maiden name after the death of her husband, because I have an insurance paper made out to her after that date. I feel there may be a link here!
I do hope you reply!
Nina
PS: I was born in Glasgow.

Nina,
My grandmother had a brother in Glasgow named Frank Carson who died many years ago. He had two sons, Frank & John. One lives in Glasgow, the other in Georgia. Is one of these cousins of my Fathers your Father?
I have heard the story many times of the name change back to Carson from Granelli during the War.
I believe the Elder Frank Carson's sister, Diana is still alive in Glasgow and I believe she is about 85. I believe Camillo Granelli also has 3 daughters, one being my grandmother Margaret.
Could this be correct?
Camillo

Hi Camillo,
I sent you a pm with my email address, as we aren't allowed to post them directly onto the board.
I can send you what I have on the family so far, and yes I do think there is a connection! I do not have everything, and probably not all brothers and sisters as the name is hard to search as you have no doubt found out ;D but it looks promising!
