I'm researching my gg grandfather Alexander Robertson and gg grandmother Rachel Fitzsimmonds. As I understand it he was born in Ontario, Canada around 1859. She was born in Quebec, Canada around 1861. Alexander's origins began in Scotland. However, Alexander and Robertson are such common names throughout Scotland it's difficult to know where to start. At some stage they must have taken the boat to emigrate to Canada, but when? There are common family names past down through the ages too. Some children were given the name Clayton and others Clyde as a middle name. My grandfather was called Allan Clyde Robertson and his father Clayton Alexander Robertson. Where does one start with this of research? Any help gratefully received. Many thanks in anticipation
