Title: rougham baptism records 1835/1843 SUTTON
Post by: tracey clarke on Saturday 09 November 13 16:51 GMT (UK)
Could anyone help with the  baptism record for Alfred Sutton born 25/12/1838 and Sarah Ann Sutton born 10/01/ 1841. If I have got this right they are brother and sister both born in Rougham and their parents are William Sutton and possibly a Mary.
I have got in a muddle with this line and I was wondering if someone was able to confirm their mothers  full name.

Thank you.

Thank you for these bits of information.
I have looked on the LDS website and have found two marriages for a William Sutton. One is Mary Ann Clarke and the other is Mary Ann Last.
How do I work out if either of those are the right parents?
Maybe he married twice?

Hi

The best & most reliable way of establishing the mothers maiden name is to get a copy of one of the known children's birth certificates from the GRO.  Sometimes the PRs record the mothers maiden name but not always.

I have found 3 William Sutton marriages in the Thingoe Reg Dist in 1838 with a Mary Ann listed on the same page (FreeBMD)
JunQ 1838 Mary Ann Clark  married either William Sutton or Abraham Cocksedge
SepQ 1838 Mary Ann Clark  married William Sutton
DecQ 1838 Mary Ann Last  married William Sutton

Thank you.

I have not been able to locate either Alfred or Sarah Sutton's birth certificates. Several years ago I spent many a time at the family records office when it was in Islington to no avail.

BMD Jun Q 1838 marriage Abraham Cocksedge , Maria Lock

1841 Census
 Sub-registration district: Rougham
 Household Members: Name Age
Abraham Cocksedge 25  1816 Brickman Suffolk
 Maria Cocksedge 25
 Harriet Cocksedge 2
 Emma Cocksedge 6 Mo

same family follows through later census.

Guess it just takes them out of the equation.
