Hello,
Kenneth Mackenzie, illegitimate, was born in Elgin, Moray on 20th Feb 1877. His mother was Isabella Ross, born Lochbroom, Ross shire. His father is named as Murdo Mackenzie, Farmer. Can anyone help to decipher Murdo's residence?
Thanks, Mags

Hi
I think it says Fannich Lodge, Contin but.................
the Fannichs are a distance from Contin
See http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=20268

Hello there
I can help to an extend as we have Kenneths original birth certificate, his mother Isabella Ross was my Fathers, Fathers Aunt. It is Fannich Lodge, Contin on the certificate. We've been looking into my Dads family recently as Kenneth died in WW1, 1917.
What is your connection can I ask?

It looks like Murdo Mackay to me. And does that really say "Farmer" ?
-
Indeed you are right thetowers. Under Isabella Ross is written 'Mother' & under Murdo Mackay is written 'Father'. I wonder if a baptism document shows any different?
If mags is sure that Kenneth's father was a Mackenzie, perhaps 'MacKay' is an error when this document was written?
Lucy - is it any clearer on the original?

Hi Mags. Just found your post. I know exactly who Murdo Mckenzie is as he is a relative. He was the then future laird of Dundonnell. The child Kenneth was recognised in his will and Isabella received a bequest of £1000 for her and the child's support. Murdo was the son of the laird at the time Dr Kenneth McKenzie formerly of "Bundanon" in the Shoalhaven NSW Australia. He died in 1878 and Murdo became laird. Regards David

Hello Lucy,
Isabella (Bella) Ross was my 2nd Great Aunt. I have a transcript of a letter from her father stating she was working for the Mackenzies. Where do you fit into the family?
Kenneth Ross
