Is there any way i can find out more about PTE William Ernest Berry who died 3rd Aug 1944 and was in the 4th Bn The Lincolnshire Reg, Service No 7905757 . I would like to know how he was killed and if he got any medals ?

Undoubtedly you'll have seen this note on the CWGC website: Son of William Alfred and Sarah Ann Berry; husband of Florence Iris Berry, of Langley Mill, Nottingham. And the photo at http://twgpp.org/information.php?id=2295923

My guess is that, as CWGC doesn't mention gallantry medals, he will only have been entitled to campaign medals.

There are a few possible ways forward:

You could order his death certificate - might give some information.

At a price you could order his service record from the Ministry of Defence

You could have a look at his unit's operations - and perhaps the War Diary - to deduce what happened.  The Lincolshire Regt's Roll of Honour - search for his name online and you'll find it - states he was killed in action, not that this gives any detail.

Hope this helps a bit.
