Hi i am looking for help with finding any information on the above named.
Denis was born somewhere in Ireland and died in the UK about 1945. He was killed in a car accident on an Army base.
From his medal card records on the National Archives site in Kew, his is rank was Acting Corporal in both the Royal Dublin Fusiliers and the Corps of Hussars.
I am trying to find any thing that may help with giving his age. place of birth and the location of his burial. We think it could be Warrington.
Can anyone please help
Thank you
Noel

There is only one recorded death for a Denis O'Neill in England or Wales in 1945 - that was in Warwick. He was 47.
There is a corresponding probate record which gives an address in Rutland Avenue, Dolphin's Barn Dublin, and the name of his widow. He died 3 November 1945 in a hospital in Warwick

Hi ShaunJ
Yes that is him.
Thanks for that bit of information confirming his residents in Dolphin's Barn which i did not have.

A small newspaper article dated November 19, 1945
Dublin Labourer's Death in England
A verdict of manslaughter against D.C.M * optician, Stratford-on-Avon, was returned by the jury at an inquest concerning the death of Denis O'Neill (47) labourer, Smith Street, Warwick, whose home is at Dolphin's Barn, Dublin. He leaves a widow and five children. Evidence was given
that O'Neill was cycling home at 10.30 p.m on his correct side of the road when a head on
collision occurred with a motor car driven by D.C.M. He was committed for trial, bail being allowed.
Perhaps local newspapers may have more to add.
*have not named the accused man since we are talking 1945

Hi just came across this post. The person you are enquiring about is my grandad. The above information is correct. He was killed in an accident involving a car and his bike. Just the other day read an old newspaper clipping my mam had of the court case in which the driver was charged with manslaughter. He did live on rutland avenue, dolphins barn . He is buried in warrington.
