Hi,
Please Can anyone help me,
My Great Great grandparents Michael Hyland and Catherine Gibbons married 17 February 1855 in Islandeady R.C.Church.
Can you buy a Marriage certificate that will give me their age and fathers name?
Thank You
Bill

Civil registration of Catholic marriages began in 1864 so the marriage will not appear in the civil registration index and you cannot buy a certificate because it simply doesn't exist.
There may be a church record of the marriage (with possibly minimal information).

Bill,
You should contact the Parish Priest (Pat Donnellan PP) of St Patricks RC Church in Cloonan, Islandeady, Castlebar, Co Mayo, Ireland and ask him "nicely" to look up the church records for this marriage.
His e-mail address is *
The church record should have information for church, marriage date, couples names, age,(usually age will be FULL AGE if over 21 years) profession, residence, fathers names, profession of father.

Thanks Paddy,
I've got the church records from the Mayo family History Centre plus their childrens records. But it does not have their father's names. On childrens baptism records do they normaly brothers and sisters as godparents?
Thanks again

Bill,
Normally there was a preference for the parents brothers & sisters to be godparents but this is not guaranteed and you cannot assume if you see similar names that they were.
They could be cousins or friends. Sorry.
I assume you had no luck finding the parents fathers names in the Griffith & Tithe reports?
Did the Mayo report mention names of townlands for Michael & Catherine.
Also why did you post your query on the County Clare site?.

Thanks Paddy,
Thats not solved my problem
I hoped it was out of Islandeady with another Catholic Church
Michael and Catherine Married 1855 and Had Patrick in 1855
then it was 8 years before they had John then 6 more children every 2 years
all born in Islandeady. I thought 8 yrs was a long time to go between children?
Another problem I have I found on Ancestry.com a Bella Bell died in Illinois USA
wife of William formally Della Hyland daughter of Michael and Catherine birth around 1879
I have'nt got a Della in my tree.
Is Della short for Delia
Thanks
Bill

Do you have a Bridget or Isabella in the family? Delia often used for Bridget whilst Bella can be short for Isabella.
