I am trying to trace the ancestors of Thomas Pether, born Newington around 1820. Can anyone shed any light on this family.

There's a Thomas Pether b 1789 Newington parents Thomas a butcher & Harriott.
Could he be your Thomas's father?

Thomas did remarry. He married Matilda in 1872. It is not moving in that direction that is causing the difficulties. I am having trouble getting further back to Thomas's exact birth or baptism and his parents and also his marriage to Hester.
-
Yes, but the marriage to Matilda gives you his father's name - George.

I am also trying to trace the baptism of Thomas Pether and his marriage to Esther/Hester Terry. I think that the death of George Pether in 1845 must be his father, but can find no marriage for him either. Can anyone help?
