Hello Jan
Thank you for the re direct route.
We are looking for parents & anything pre 1734 for our ancestor John Lashmar. Born ant 1734 in West Grinstead. Married Hannah Borer or Borrer in 1759 in Shipley. 5 children all born in West Grinstead . John died 1799.
Many Thanks

Hi Anne
OK I'll see what I can find but may I ask how you know John was born in West Grinstead pre 1734 if you've not found his baptism yet? Thanks

Jan, the SMI states John Lashmere - subject detail "West Grinstead" the marriage took place in Shipley and Hannah Borer "otp"
Whether John was born in WG remains to be seen but he must have been living there at the time of marriage to have been described thus ? :-\

Thanks Suey. So he could have been born anywhere really.
Where did you get the pre 1734 birth year from Anne?

Thanks sillgen. I did see that thread but still wondering where the 'pre 1734' actually comes from - family search?
I will have a look in the West Grinstead PR's Anne, with luck they will have a transcript for the relevant years which will make it easier to cover a wide range of years including post 1734. Be prepared for him not being there though as place of residence at marriage is not necessarily where someone was born. Fingers crossed :D

Hi Jan
Sillgen has located my source - the work done by Kay & sent to me in 13-14 October.
We don't have any more info about this generation.
I'm new to all this, so have not known how to look for pre census information myself.
Hoping a little light will emerge.
Yours gratefully
Anne

I haven't forgotten your look-up Anne, but it is looking increasingly unlikely that I will get to the Records Office before the New Year.
If anyone else has requests please continue to post here.

Hi,
Could you have a look for a baptism for George Weeks bc 1833/4 Chichester; parents possibly James and Maria?
Also a marriage between Robert Rodgers (var) and Mary (?) around 1830/3; again in Chichester.
Many thanks,
Nanny Jan

I'll have look for you - there are transcripts for all the Chi parishes so it should be possible if they are there to find :)

Thanks janan, that's very kind of you. I'm sure witnesses could be of interest.

Nanny Jan
There is no sign of a baptism for a George Weeks in any of the Chichester parishes
The witnesses for the Robert Rogers and Mary Chatfield marriage were James Garrett and Mary Garrett

Thanks Jan; I can trace George forwards but confirming his parents........... ::)
Thanks for the names of the witnesses. I appreciate the time that you spent searching for me. :)

There was no baptism for John Lashmer (and variants) in West Grinstead. There was a George and Mary Lashmer having children in West Grinstead 1743 onwards, but nothing earlier.
For children of John and Hannah there were the following West Grinstead baptisms
Sarah 18 Feb 1763
John 6 Mar 1767
Hannah 26 Dec 1770
Joc? 6 Jan 1777
And these burials
Sarah 25 Jan 1771
Ann 26 Jan 1771
Richard 3 Feb 1771 all children of John and Hannah :'(
John Lashmere 19 Dec 1799
The Widow Lashmar 20 Dec 1807
George Lashmar 81 2 May 1829
The Marriage in Shipley
John Lasmere of the parish of West Grinstead
Hannah Borer of this parish married by Banns on 24th December 1759
x the mark of John Lashmere
hannah boover (sic) signed
Witnesses William Boover signed
Wm Banfield signed
Hope this is of some help eventhough sadly you are still lacking a baptism for John

Perhaps George Weeks was christened non-conformist?

Hi Jan,
Are you still able to do a look up?
I am looking for a burial record of a young man named William Moulding. I have him being born in 1846 in Bury to the parents of Richard Moulding and Elizabeth Gent. There is a burial record of a William Moulding in 1866 in the district of Chichester. I am trying to confirm if this is the same man as the William I am following completely disappears off of Census records after 1861.
Let me know if you are still able to help!
Thanks!!!
