Title: Thomas DELBRIDGE m. Mary Jane INGRAM
Post by: bfandbf on Sunday 20 October 13 22:23 BST (UK)
Thomas Delbridge was born June 1846 in St. Agnes, Cornwall.

Mary Jane Ingram was born Jan 1846 in Hayle.

They married 1866 in the Redruth district, probably Hayle area.  I would love to know more about their predecessors.

I believe Thomas Delbridge's parents were Thomas Delbridge b. 1820 and Caroline Bond b. abt. 1821.

I believe Mary Jane Ingram's parents were Tobias Ingram and Mary Watts who descended from the Arundel family so more known in that line.

Thank you for whatever help there might be to offer for the Delbridges or Ingrams.

The 1851 for St Keverne appears to contradict that - parents are shown as John & Frances

The Thomas Delbridge with parents Thomas & Caroline was born 1844 Gwennap according to the 1861 census

Do you have a copy of the 1866 marriage cert showing his fathers name and occupation

The 1851 shows Mary Jane Ingram b Phillack with parents Tobias & Mary

There is also this 1871 entry

Mary Delbridge 29 b St Agnes not Hayle - wife of miner in Brazil
Thomas 3 b Gwennap
Caroline 1b Gwennap
RG10 Piece 2313 Folio 19 Page 1

This would appear to be the wife and family of the Thomas with parents Thomas & Caroline

However - if you are looking for a Thomas Delbridge b St Agnes 1846 - - there is another possibility

You need the marriage cert

I think the parents as John & Frances are more likely for the Thomas born 1846. They are in Phillack in 1861 and son Thomas is a blacksmith. By 1871 Thomas and wife Mary J are in Forden Montgomeryshire. Do you have certs to be sure which Thomas & Mary you're descended from?

Thank you all for all the great leads.  I agree that I probably had the parents of Thomas Delbridge incorrect.  The 1871 census evidence with Thomas that Osprey mentions is definitely my great great grandfather.  The wife and children are correct as is the profession.  He died in California in 1886, age 40 and his profession was well-documented as a blacksmith.

I do now have a marriage certificate link.  They were Methodists.  I believe they were married in 1866 but can't be certain right now.

Thanks again for all the efforts!

do you have a birth certificate for one of the children to confirm Mary's maiden name so that you can be sure you're following the right family?

Ellen Delbridge jun qtr 1869 Redruth vol 5c pg 274

When you've confirmed the maiden name, you can be sure of the marriage. Certs available from the GRO

Thanks so much for the tips.  I am 100% sure that the mother was Mary Jane Ingram.  The daughter, Ellen, you reference was indeed born 31 May 1869 in Hayle.  Ellen stayed in California after her father died and the mother returned to England.  Ellen had married another Cornish transplant, William Tresidder.  Ellen was always in the same town as her sister, Mary Frances Delbridge Johns, until the sister died and then always quite close to her brother in law.  The Delbridges in England remain somewhat of a mystery.  I did have the wrong parents, though, and am glad to find out otherwise.

If you use Nic for the surname, it will find variants. Marriage to Elizabeth Mollard, his burial and possbile baptism are there as is Elizabeth's baptism in 1793.
