Title: Ontario Marriage Help
Post by: mbewleym on Monday 14 October 13 15:23 BST (UK)
Hi to all,

I am trying to find the marriage of: Phillip Ernest Bewley Born abt 1912 Liverpool Lancashire Uk
Lavinia Florance Bull Born July 16th 1923 in Kenora Ontario.
They seem to have been married abt June 2nd or 3rd 1952-54
They were either married in the surrounding area of Kenora or Accordingly they might have been married in the States. Can anyone give me an idea were to look? Both are deceased now buried in the land of the lakes cemetery Kenora Any help would be appreciated greatly,
Bewley

Hi,

Welcome to Rootschat

There are no Central registries/indexes in Canada for BMDs.  Canada has very strict privacy laws and each province imposes its own even further.  Additionally, some provinces are more research friendly than others so researching in Canada can be challenging.  The last available Canadian Census was 1911 apart from Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta which was 1916.  As a guide BMD Records are only available for births more than a 100 years ago, marriages 80 years ago and deaths 70 years ago. Trying to trace modern day families in Canada you depend on newspaper announcements, cemetery records, obituaries, telephone directories.
So you can see from that how tight the privacy laws make it in trying to get information and how that might hinder your search

I agree with Sandra, getting info on BMD in Ontario for recent years is next to impossible, however the Kenora Daily Miner and News might have info on BMD's or the Kenora Public Library might have these newspapers archived. There is a site called Ancestor Seekers of Kenora where you might get some help. Good luck.

Hi,

I live about 3 hours away from Kenora. You may want to contact the Kenora public library and the local genealogy group there for them to do lookups for the info you are looking for. You may want to do same for Dryden and Sioux Lookout - and possibly Thunder Bay and Winnipeg.

Trust this helps you, JDC

I live in Kenora and if you send me the death dates for Phillip and Lavina Bewley I can look for their obituaries that might mention their marriage date.
