Title: Frederick and Alice Eckersley
Post by: Matahui on Monday 07 October 13 03:47 BST (UK)
My great uncle, Frederick Eckersley, b.1883 married Alice Lewis in 1920 in Newton Heath. Alice was a widow with 2(?) children. She was born Alice Lockett. They had three children of their own: Frederick b. 1921, John b. 1924 and Margaret b. 1926. At the time of Frederick's death in 1962, son Frederick was married to Grace (Walsh?) and son John to Irene (McMahon). I should very much like to know what happened to to any of Frederick and Alice's family.
Is it possible to access electoral rolls from New Zealand?? In 1962 Frederick and Grace lived at 106 Lightbowne Road, Manchester 10, and John and Irene were at 22 Swift Street, Newton Heath.
Thank you
Matahui

hi,,not related to your enquiry,,but wondered if you were aware of Fredericks brief army service,,,,he enlisted in the Manchester regiment in 1901,,,but was allowed to leave after serving 187 days to look after and provide for his widowed mother.

Alice Lockett  married 3 times,,,firstly to  Richard Henry Mawson in 1909,,he died the same year,,,,then to  Albert Lewis in 1910,,,then to  Frederick.
I can see a birth of an Alice Lewis in 1915  mothers maiden name Lockett,,,,and also one for a Dorothy Lewis in 1915,,,This birth has 2 index results,,one with mothers maiden name Lewis,,,and the other with Mawson.

Thank you very much. I did know about Frederick's army career. I got a load of info' from Ancestry, and my father remembers him coming to visit in army uniform.
I had not realised that Alice had been married 3 times though....thanks!

Thank you gortonboy. I've now got the details of Frederick's 1901 army stint, also Alice's first  marriage to Richard Henry Mawson in 1909, his death and Alice's subsequent marriage to Albert Lewis in 1910. I found Alice and Albert on 1911 census; with them was Elizabeth Mawson aged 5! If she was Alice's daughter she was born a few years before Richard and Alice married. I cannot find a former marriage for Richard Henry.

Thank you heatherjulie. I would say that is definitely Alice's daughter. I found another possible:- Annie Lewis b. 1911.
