Title: Restore and date request please
Post by: thistlebay on Saturday 05 October 13 16:41 BST (UK)
Is there anyone out there can restore and date this photo please.  It has been badly damaged by water so I'm not sure if restoration is possible.  I think it dates to around c1900 but would appreciate other views.

Many thanks in advance
Catherine

Ouch :(

I'll wait to see if a restore is possible (in other words, a miracle) but just by the look of the neckline I'd say mid 1920s. Not 1900, necklines were very high and didn't drop until just before the war. Here's hoping :P :)

Cheers,
China

Hi China
Thank you for your reply.  I spoke with a family yesterday who said it would probably have been around 1910ish so you are more likely correct on this as this lady was born 1881.
I really hope someone is able to help with the restoration  :( , this is the only picture we have of her.
Regards
Catherine

Great efforts from the restorers!  ;D

If this lady has bobbed hair, it won't be 1910, much more like China's original suggestion of 1925ish, which fits with the neckline also.

Are you sure of the identification of the lady, often photographs are misidentified?  Perhaps it could be your lady's daughter?

Ww, outstanding work! Really didn't think this one was doable :P

As IS mentions, mid-late 20s or even 30s....even 1910 is way too early for this look. This is a modern girl, maybe a flapper with that hairstyle :)

Cheers,
China

Hi China and IgorStrav

This is definitely the lady I mentioned born 1881, her grand-daughter has written on the back of the photo saying who she is and the grand=daughter has only just passed a few months ago, so we do have th right person born at that time, maybe she just looks quite young for that time you give, if that is correct, she would have been approx 45ish.  BUT what a fantastic job the restorers have done don't you think? I will post up a photo of her daughter who I believe looked like her mother, (the person in the photo).

Ok, the pics of lady you have all restored to her former glory are fantastic and a big thank you to you all.  This pic I have uploaded is the daughter of the lady in the pic restored and I beleive this lady is very very much like her mother.  Is this any help to anyone, and can anyone restore this new pic for me please.
