Hi
I am searching a birth record for Weiland / Weyland in Clausthal, Germany.
Carl August Wilhelm Weiland born 20 January 1854 Clausthal may have had a twin brother named August Friedrich Julius Weiland.
I have been unable to find any details on the twin August Friedrich Julius once they arrived in South Australia on 1 January 1855 on the ship Johann Cesar (left Hamburg 5 Oct 1854).
Ships List shows father Johann Ernst Friedrich Weiland (34) mother Johanna (Hammer) and 3 children Johann 8, Ernst 4, and Carl 0 (infant). Tripod Ship List shows 4 children - plus August 0.
Ancestry.com on shipping manifest looks like the number '4' for the number of children (cannot read German). Other shipping details have 3 or 4 children.
Maybe August Friedrich Julius died on the voyage as there were 4 deaths but no names listed.
Their parents were Johann Ernst Friedrich Weiland / Weyland born 6 Aug 1820 Clausthal and Johanna Henriette Georgine Hammer born 21 Oct 1824 Hanover. Married 18 Sept 1845 Prussia.
There were two other children Johann Carl Heinrich Christian born 10 April 1846 Clausthal, Ernst Philip born 13 Jan 1850 (he also went under the name of Johann Friedrich Christian) but in South Australia it was Ernst Philip.
Could anyone help with the birth record in Clausthal on the child/children Carl August Wilhelm and August Friedrich Julius?
Thank you for reading my request.

Hi Shay Mary
On the German ancestry site (www.ancestry.de ) someone has a Family Tree showing a Johann August Weiland died 1860 in Melbourne. He was Born in Clauthal Niedersachsen. Couldn't find Carl August or August Friederich, but maybe something of interest on there.
If you could find out where the Clausthal records are held (possibly via the Internet) and you contacted them they would be able to give you the details. Here in Germany each birth is entered with the names of the parents and grandparents.

Hi Musictrish
Since my last post I have received Clausthal Archives records on August Friedrich Julius Weyland and he was baptised in Clausthal but did not arrive in South Australia. The manifest of the ship in Ancestry.com shows 4 children left Germany.
I am almost certain, but will never be able to prove, that August Friedrich Julius died on the ship to South Australia. There were several children who died on the voyage but no names listed.
All his family lived in South Australia.
Thank you for your reply.

Dear shay mary
Re the Weilands/Weylands onboard the "Johan Cesar"
Two families arrive 1. August & Johanne (nee Hammer) Weiland and 4 children Carl, Ernst, Ernst Friedrich & Wilhelm.
2. (my line) Johan August Weiland, his wife Johanne Friedericke Charlotte (nee Diekmann) and youngest daughter Theresa aged 19.
He has three sons already in Australia Carl Christian Friedrich (known as Frederick or Fritz) and Christian Friedrich Wilhelm (known as William) who both arrive onboard the "Dockenhunden" 1853.
Carl Wilhelm Julius (known as Charles) arrives onboard the "Grassbroek" 1853
A daughter Dorothea (nee Weiland) her husband Carl Wilhelm Fraatz and 3 children come to Queensland onboard the "Susanne Godeffroy". All of them later moving into Victoria.
The South Australia family retain the Weyland spelling while we use Weiland.
If there is anything else regarding the Weilands just let me know.

Dear Shay Mary
Of the number of Weiland's coming to Australia there are only three families who I believe to be connected to my line. I haven't as yet followed up to prove it, but in some document or another they all state that they are from Clausthal so I think the chances are that they are cousins. I have my line back to the late 1600's early 1700's from the Lutheran Church Records in Clausthal-Zellerfeld, I can send a copy if it would help, also information on the families below if they are of interest to your research .
The families I think that are connected but not proven are:
1. 1855
August & Johanne (nee Hammer) Weiland and 4 children Carl, Ernst, Ernst Friedrich & Wilhelm. Arrived South Australia onboard the "Johan Cesar". These are the South Australian Weyland's.
2. 1854
August Weilant (Clausthal) aged 19, 3 August 1854 arrives Victoria onboard the “Sophie” from Hamburg having left 20 April 1854. Lived in the North Melbourne/Footscray area of Victoria but the family later moves to New South Wales.
3. 1851
Carl Friedrich Weiland (Clausthal) aged 24, 21 Sep 1851 arrives Adelaide onboard the “Herder” from Bremerhaven left 5 June 1851 occupation given as Ore Sorter. Carl August Weiland, (Harz) 5 October 1852 arrives Victoria onboard the “Onkaporinga” from Adelaide.
This family lived in the Talbot area of Victoria
Trust this might be of some help
