Title: WILSON from Belfast
Post by: heat67 on Thursday 03 October 13 21:38 BST (UK)
Hi all! I have a newspaper cutting for my gt gt grandfather STEVENSON WILSON. He died on 18 Aug 1898 at his home in Hatfield St and was interred in Castlereagh Burying Ground. My query is where is this cemetery and does anyone live close enough to check it out for me. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

It is a 10 and a half acre site on the Rocky Road Lisnabreeny and is also where the American Military Cemetery is in the Castlereagh hills....... Castlereagh is the area of South Belfast

Thanks. I've just googled it but it doesn't mention, anywhere I can find, that it was used as a burial ground for anyone other than US servicemen during WW2. Did there used to be a public burial ground there too?

Not familiar with it myself so I've had to rely on Google to find some information.

Burying ground attached to Catlsereagh Presbyterian Church mentioned here (http://www.ancestryireland.com/irish-presbyterianism/presbyterian-ancestors/presbyterian-graveyards-and-gravestone-inscriptions/)

Here's an 1889 death notice which mentioned a burial there-
"CLAWSON -- July 1, Hugh Clawson, Lisnabreeny, aged 91 years. The remains of my beloved father will be removed from his late residence, Lisnabreeny, for interment in Castlereagh Burying-ground, on to-morrow (Wednesday), at twelve o'clock noon. Friends will please accept this intimation. WILLIAM CLAWSON."

There have been some gravestone inscriptions published-
