Could someone with access to 1841 or before census of this area please look for me for..
John Arnold born 1834 or 1835 "Strand London", according to the 1881 census.
Many thanks.

Sorry for the delay in picking up this query.
Unfortunately there is no name index for the 1841 census so an address is essential for a look up.
Did John have any siblings? If one was born near to 1841 it might be worth getting the certificate so you can get an address.
Alternatively, if you are trying to find his siblings/parents, perhaps you could work backwards from the 1881 census. The earliest census with a full index is the 1861. There are partial indexes for 1851.
If you want a look up in any of the indexed censuses please give as much info as possible eg what you have from the 1881 (including occupation), possible names of parents/siblings, as this will help narrow down the search.

The 1851 census surname index for St.Mary le Strand shows 3 entries for the surname Arnold but none of them was for John.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

The Arnold's may well be related to someone in the household as Mary doesn't appear to have an occupation and has three young children

Thank you Bryant.
John Arnold senior was a "General Dealer" whatever that meant! I tell my husband (his ancestor) that he was a rag and bone man!
Not sure at all!
