I am seeking information on the place of birth and any further details of Albert BABAROVICH, son of Margaret BABAROVICH (no father details), born 9 November 1889 in Hunters Hill NSW Australia (NSW BC 1890/030824). Margaret was 16 years old and unmarried, second daughter of Antonio BABAROVICH and Margaret ANDREWS. Margaret married Ernesto RAFFO on 26 May 1890 (NSW MC 1890/005959) as Margareta, at St Matthias' Church Paddington NSW. Margaret and Ernesto had at least one son, Stephen RAFFO.

Thank you, tedscout and giblet. I have a copy of Albert's BC, thanks, and I have seen the death notice in the SMH. Sad that Albert has just disappeared. I wonder if he was adopted. No death record that I can find, so far. Perhaps he had a different surname.

Are you certain that STEPHEN A E Raffo is not ALBERT
There is no birth registered to Ernesto and Margaret only to Stephen and his wife Mary Smith ???1909 - 1912

Thanks again for your help. I am interested in the Hunters Hill facility (hospital?) that Albert was born in. Was it a home where pregnant girls went to stay until they gave birth? I see Margaret registered the birth in that district (Ryde) some weeks later, ie 17 February 1890, baby not present. Perhaps she breastfed the child for some weeks before he was adopted (3 months later). Are there any records of this institution or was this common practice?

Perhaps you should type up & post ALL THE DETAILS from the birth certificate & post it on the thread so we can see for ourselves what it says. Not just bits & pieces...
Just so you know... Legal Adoption did not start in NSW until 1923.
Unofficial adoptions took place and were arranged by family, friends, advertisements, private arrangements, through churches and the State Children's Relief Department.
The NSW Child Welfare Act 1923 formalised adoption
