Title: Browe (Surname) in Ireland
Post by: quinnw on Tuesday 01 October 13 14:07 BST (UK)
Hi

I am trying to trace a line in my family and came across the Browe surname. In the 1901 census there were only 14 Browe in all of Ireland. In 1911 there were 36.

I'm having real trouble tracking down Patrick Browe: http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/6b07ec0010867 and understanding if there is a link with this Patrick Browe: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Dublin/Mountjoy/Marlborough_Street/1327906/

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Bill

I see there is a reference to Kildare so I had a look in the Kildare Observer for the name Browe.
1899 a Thomas Browe served as a juror.
1901 Annie Browe was assaulted Blessington court
1913 T Browe uncle of deceased James Lawlor of Naas
1911 John Browe attends a funeral in Naas
1898 J Browe played cricket for Celbridge
May not be of any use but at least it shows there was Browes in Kildare.

Hello,
Please can you clarify this- is it the first one you are tracking or the second one and perhaps thinking that there could be a link but not necessarily.

Heywood

@Sinann - Bingo! Well done! 1913 T Browe uncle of deceased James Lawlor of Naas - We have a James Lawlor as a sponsor on a marriage cert, so maybe?

@Heywood Please can you clarify this- is it the first one you are tracking or the second one and perhaps thinking that there could be a link but not necessarily.
- Sorry for the confusion. Tracking the first Patrick Browe - whose father is Thomas Browe, trying to ascertain if there is a link to the second Patrick Browe (we have found a very tenuous link spread out over 30 years, now need confirmation).

If you use the link on this page you can search the Observer for free
http://www.kildare.ie/community/notices/technology/now_online_the_kildare_observe.asp
Thomas Lawlor was originally from Wicklow.
Use the date range Jan to Dec 1913 to find his death notice, and use " around his name in the search box.
