Hi
Does anyone know anything about Mary Cain who married my great great great grandad Thomas Corlett on 19 August 1843 in Maughold. Maybe a birth year, parents?!
Many thanks!
-
Did they continue to live in the IOM after marriage? Can you give us some names of their children?
When and where was Thomas born
-
Did Thomas have a middle name ???
-
No middle name on marriage

Hi. I don't know whether Thomas had a middle name, sorry. Yes I am presuming they did stay in the Isle of Man. Their children were Catherine b1848, Sarah b1848, Thomas b1851, Henry b1853, Emily b1856, Christian b1859 and John b1862

This could be the 1851 entry for Maughgold but entry is quite faint in parts. I think all children were b Maughold as was her mother
Mary Corlett 34 house joiners wife b Marown? - could be Maughold. shown as married
Catherine Corlett 5
Sarah Corlett 2
Thomas Corlett 3 Mths
Jane Cowin/Cain 70 mother widow

-

Great!! Thanks very much :)

Have a look at these entries from FS. I think you may need to buy a copy of her 1843 marriage cert to get her fathers name

Oh will do, great! Thanks
-
www.imuseum.im is the place to go - usually!
However the marriage details are just as you have them - no father's names.
-
Oh that's a shame, thank you for so kindly looking!
-
The 1841 census is no real help. Mary Cain was 25 and working as a servant for a Thomas Moore and family. Thomas was a brewer
-
Unfortunately, I am now working in London! ::)
But, if I get time the next time I am home, I will try to look up the PR entries - just in case there is more information!
I live 20 yds from the Museum - where the records are kept!!
-
Oh wow, what a kind offer! Thank you so much, most appreciated!!
-
havn't we been here before - jane Cown [= cowin] is mother of illeg Thomas - I'm sure I gave you this a short time ago
-
Thank you but I was asking for information about Mary Cain, Thomas' wife
-
I suspect she too is illeg tho I havn't found a match tho I have a presentmentment Court Douglas 14 Oct 1818: Isabella Colvin Marown affiliated on John Caine Marown - any child would be known as Cain but I don't seem to have a bapt - maybe double check iMuseum
-
Thanks sounds like a few were illegitimate!
-
look ay my site www.manxnotebook.com under famhist genealogy - about 10% around this period in Lezayre (which covers North Ramsey)
-
Oh will do, thanks!
