Hi
Does anyone have access to the 1851 Census for Skipton, North Yorkshire?
If so, I would appreciate a look up of the Kipling family.
Joseph Kipling would be aged about 46 born Lythe, Yorks.
wife Frances also about 46 born Skelton, Yorks.
not sure which of their children would be at home – but certainly the youngest would – that’s Ruth born 1847 in Bridlington.
They were there in 1861, 1871 and 1881, so I am hoping they are there in 1851 too.
Thanks in anticipation.
cheers
Jayne

Do you have the address for them in 1861 as they may have been living there in 1851 also.
Skipton was in the county of West Yorkshire at that time aswell!

Hi
They were at New Street, Skipton in 1861. 1871 was very hard to decipher but may have been Currer? Street, Skipton.
Thanks

Just looked at 1851 for New Street and Currer Street(side by side on the Census) and not found a single Kipling.
Will look at a few more pages but can't promise anything.

Hi
The John you found married to Hannah - I think that's the son! Will have to check further but it looks very positive. Thanks so much!

The Rev Joseph Kipling and family may be found in 1851 in Ellison Street, Gateshead. He, the grandfather of Rudyard Kipling, was a methodist minister and so moved around every two years or so to different churches.
You can find out more about him, and his son John Lockwood Kipling, in "The Pater" by Arthur R Ankers.
Best wishes.
