Yes - it's to prevent abuse by spammers.  Post once more (e.g by replying here) and you'll be in the system  :)

Hi all,

This is my first post and this thread has answered the question I was about to ask. I want to pm somebody who is looking for some information on a family member but there is no option the send a pm.
I am also just starting to trace my family back and have found this site to be really friendly with a great source of info and links. Look forward to spending some time on here      :)

You need to make one more post before the system is available to you.

Why don't you post a reply on the topic that is of interest to you. That post will increase your count.
