In the last 12 months we have been enjoying a film subscription where you can create lists of films that you wish to watch and they are posted out to you. What I have loved in particular has been the opportunity to watch some of the older films.
Most my family research has been in Manchester and Lancashire so have been watching films like "love on the Dole" which has always been regarded as a real life portrayal of Salford during the unemployment crisis of the 1930's.
What other films are there which reflect on the historic nature of the county that I could to add to my film list??

I don't know if your subscription site has factual films but if it does then look out for "The Lost World of Mitchell & Kenyon" and "Electric Edwardians - The Films of Mitchell & Kenyon" - both are compilations of short silent films from the 1890s to 1910s mostly shot in Lancashire.
If they are not available from your site they are both on dvd from the BFI.
Well worth a look,

Hi Sarah,
Don't know whether this one fits the bill or not but how about one of my favourites - Whistle Down the Wind? Good depiction of Lancs rural life in the 1960s with a bit of Burnley thrown in for good measure. I'm very familiar with where it was filmed ;D

Hobson's Choice ... A brilliant film by David Lean,British Film Award 1954,even allowing for the classic southern "northern accent" Charles Laugh ton,John Mills and my favourite unorthodox beauty Brenda de Banzie (Manchester girl raised in Salford) with a bonus of Christ Church,Acton Square,Salford

Ooh I had forgotten all about Hobsons Choice, that was one of the books I read at School in English. Must have a look at that one again :D

I have just come across this:
http://vimeo.com/68841275
which is the first part of a factual project by (I think) Salford University looking at life in old Salford prior to the 1960s clearances. It's a haunting piece of film made about 1968 but clearly shows how life had been for local residents for many years before. It lasts about 26 minutes. I do hope this link works. I came across it on Facebook as I belong to several groups with an interest in Manchester and Salford history. Second part:
