Hi, Trying to work out who the girl is in photo, i had it scanned out of a deceased family member's album, if anybody has any idea when it was taken and her age i possibly could narrow down who it is hopefully.
Regards Roy

My guess would be about 18 years old...nice photo.

My guess ( and it is only a guess) would put her a little younger, maybe 16 or even 15. Hard to tell though.
-
I'd go along with Carol's estimate of about 18, since she seems to have developed adult features and the soft, childish look has gone.

What age did girls 'put their hair up' ?
-
My guesstimates for age & era are 15/16 yrs old 1930/40's on the basis of her hair style of 2 ringlets (don't look like plaits) which would possibly not be an adults style?

hmm I think she looks around 14/15

Hi Roy,
Was the photo a postcard pic?
It is obviously an arranged photo session not a random pic & may be around war time especially if it's a postcard image?
If there is writing on the back would be a good idea to post a copy of handwriting for someone to identify year of writing technique?

If someone can identify the era of the costume (blouse) that would be a better clue as to era.

She has no (or minimal) wrinkles around the eyes, which indicates probably on the younger side, say around 15, rather than 18.
(this being before the advent of photoshop :P :P :P )

What a beauty!
If it's a postcard we need to see a scan of the back please.
Cheers,

Hi, Unfortunately i have only a scanned picture of her, i have sent an email to the person that sent me it, but i think that they have gone to the USA for about six months, i'm hoping that this is a picture of my wife's grandmother, who died years before she was born, ( she has no other pictures of her to compare )
I'm also hoping that someone can give me the decade that the picture was taken, which could narrow it down.
Thank you all so far.

Beautiful! ... I'd say about 16years, not really sure of when though, guessing 1920's :-\
Does it say Sharp's as I see it, or Sharpes as you have underneath the image?
-
Sharp's, or maybe even Sharf's ?? (on 200%)

:-\ haven't really come up with anything, i.e. when studio was in business ... there is a leather photo album in a museum collection containing 15 family studio portrait photos and studio mentioned is Sharp studios at Hamilton Coatbridge and Strathaven.... if it was indeed Hamilton UK?
-
I couldn't find anything either, except a modern Sharp's studio founded in 1979 :P
-
16 or 17 taken about 1905 - 1910 is my amateur opinion.

A look at 1901 census has:
Name: Robert W Sharp
Age: 41
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1860
Relationship: Head
Spouse's name : Louisa Sharp
Gender: Male
Where born: Hamilton, Lanarkshire
Registration number: 647
Registration District: Hamilton
Civil Parish: Hamilton
Town: Hamilton
County: Lanarkshire
Address: 23 Quarry St
Occupation: Photographer
ED: 11
Household Schedule Number: 225

Now to find a listing as Photographer, Photography, Studio or whatever ??? in a directory prior to what is listed today in Townhead St, Hamilton.
Does anyone know if this is the same street as Quarry Street in census having changed name over a period?
Annie
P.S. Robert W described as Photographic Artist on 1891 census

Hi,
I have finally got hold of a scan of the back of photo, hoping somebody can narrow down when picture was taken
Roy

Adding my guesstimate to the others - 17 years old and taken about 1919.
-
This K Ltd. stamp box was used over a long period, 1918-36.
This photo is the earlier of those dates & probably early-mid 20's
