Title: Name help?
Post by: ldavies on Monday 16 September 13 19:05 BST (UK)
For the life of me cannot figure out what this name is, it's probably a common name just that I'm reading it wrong, would appreciate a pair of fresh eyes on this, thanks.

Thanks for the replies, yeah I came up with Mursada and Thursada but thought that cant be right? This is more of the census, its from 1891.

where was she born and when? There are a couple of birth regs for Theodosia Howells that may be in the right area....

She is 3 months in this census which is 1891 so it would be 1891, and her birth is Trealaw, Glamorgan which comes under Pontypridd - I have checked but can't see anything resembling this name

The 1891 census has the family  with  a dau  Rhoda ( very clear  on the original )   aged  10   below  Evan Daniel  aged  12 .    Free BMD  has  a Rhoda born March  Qtr  of  1891,  ,  Maybe the enumerator    misheard  ,  and  if there  was no one to  correct him ,  he put  down  what   he thought was correct  ........... Ancestry  has deciphered the name a Thomas !

Think she may be Laura Ann in the 1901 census.

Yeah I have them in 1901 and there is a Rhoda who is 10 years old but I just assumed that this child had died rather than it was just a misunderstanding with the name itself, makes sense I suppose!

Maybe    the name they  said was a 'pet' name   and enumerator   put it down  rather than  the  real   name ?   even tho   my   grandmother was born  in Wales ,  I'm not  'up' on  Welsh  pet  names !   it certainly  doesn't  look like Rhoda  on 1891,  and  it doesn't appear that she's  a twin

It could be a pet name, I know that her sister is on the 1891 census as Martha and then on the 1901 census as Mattie, same as her brother Edward who has his name on 1901 then in 1911 is called Isaac after his middle name. So you could be right, I still just don't have a clue what it says
