Sure, Victor, Alresford.
Any idea what place is it, "The Ruins"?

Hi there Mike,
The Ruins is a place in Bishops Sutton, near Alresford, Hampshire. The Ruins seems as if it is now the big gardens of Whitefriars, see web link below:
http://www.visitoruk.com/Winchester/bishops-sutton-C592-V25229.html
The information on that page was taken from a book that may hold more even information for you and if you internet search The Ruins, Bishops Sutton you may find even more.
Best wishes, haliared.

Thanks haliared,

Cheers, Mike

You are very welcome Mike,
This link below shows that the address was still extant in 1953.

There are ruins in Alresford, Essex, so when you search be careful you're not looking at the Essex one by mistake, I've made that error before !
-
Thanks again, haliared
Yes, I now about other Alresford in Essex.
By the way, this "Nicholson Olga Nina" was one of the residents of "The Ruins" I am looking for :)
I have all the information (I think so) about her from Ancestry, newspapers, but still wander what this place "The Ruins" was.
Cheers, Mike

Your hint, haliared, worked!
Just have found this article I have not seen before. Seems there was some kind of clinic (Ophthalmology?) there, at The Ruins.

no, it was not a clinic, it was a house of Mrs. Arthur Hobson
not "my story", but just an interesting finding from "The Ruins":
Hon. Margaret Forbes-Sempill, who recovered for several month in 1931 at The Ruins after serious car accident in November 1930 was killed in car accident 36 years later :(

Hi Mike,
I'm really glad that you're getting somewhere with The Ruins. Maybe these people will know more about the place:

I came across rather late your discussion on the Ruins , Alersford, UK and your reference to Nina Olga Nicholson. She and Olga Vera Evans lived there from about 1940 to 1980. Olga Vera (presumably her mother) was born Vera MacLean in 1890. Her mother (Louise ) was my great grandmother from an earlier marriage. I have a fair amount of info on both of them - mainly their travels back and forth between UK and US. Vera seemed to have travelled one way at least every year on average for 40 years - often on major ships like the Queen Mary. I gather that Nina's father was in the Army in India where she was born - but I have no hard facts. If you can help me out with any info , I would appreciate it.

Good Mike.
My interest is Vera's mother but there are some fascinating back stories with Vera and Holden Evans who she married some time earlier.
