Hi All
I've been trying to find a specific street on the 1881 cenus and am sure I've done this some time in the past but I've no memory now of how I did it. It may be that the site has changed or, rather more likely, that the old grey matter has finally siezed up completely. I'd be very grateful for suggestions. I have a subscription to Ancestry and street I'm looking for is Grenfell Street, Widnes.
Many thanks in advance.
Marie.

I used to find streets by looking at the enumerators notes - but now I sub to find my past.
No Grenfell Street shows up in 1881 but is on in 1891
1891 ref: RG12 piece 3013 folio 23 page 40 >

Type Grenfell St not Street in the address box and Widnes in the Civil Parish.
This is using the "old search" not the new one.

New Search: Type in Grenfell St in the "lived in" box and Widnes in the Keyword box ::) Why oh why is everything so difficult to find on the "new search" ???

Thank you so much Rootschatters for all your prompt and helpful replies. Like Huckleberry, I was convinced I'd previously found addresses via enumerators' notes but then doubted my memory when I weas unable to find them.
Thanks to you all I have discovered the street and address I was searching for. I put Widnes in the 'born' box and Grenfell St in the 'lived' box, which worked, and then moved Widnes to the 'key word' box, which also worked. I just have to try to remember the the hints and tips next time I need to find a specific address.
