Hi there! I have a picture with nothing written on the back (bad ancestors!! :) what I'm keen to know is if its the same gentleman as the picture of the man standing up (who appears to be my gt gt grandfather b1868 d1940) who has "dad" written on the back. I would like to know the approx dates for both based on clothing or whatever if possible, thank you!
edited to add- sorry forgot to say pictures taken in north carolina usa!

With the scratch removed
The pictures bear a very close resemblance to each other when you zoom in.

Thank you, I guess I'm just worried that the portrait picture could have been a son if the dates didn't match up. But thank you for removing the scratch :) much obliged!

One more vote to say I would agree with Steve.
I'd be more than surprised if they aren't the same person.
Kind regards,
Pels.

Thank you, for a bit of a comparison, here is a definite picture of this gentleman's son Fairley, some family resemblance there!

Another vote for it being the same person ......... the ears, the set of the eyes and the mouth look the same to me.

Ditto.

Thanks everyone!

The one thing that never changes on a person is the ears. It is almost certainly the same person, the first picture taken around 1915 when he would have been 45 and the second he is obviously older, say by about 10 years, making it 1925, possibly a little later.

I always believed that the ears grew as we get older ???

Yes, they do Carol but in proportion to our size. The shape remains the same.
