Having reached a dead end on my side of the family, I am turning my attentions to my husband's family. It seems that his greatgrandfather might have come from Glasgow (according to a Canadian census report). His name was Arthur Stuart Alvin (or Albin) Turner and I believe he was born in 1893. Can anyone help me find any information about him and his family?
-
Where in Canada was he living and on what census what was his wife's name ???
-
It was the 1891 census for Quebec. His wife's name was Mary.
-
Did you not say he was born 1893 in your post ??
-
Oops, you're right I did. 3 generations of "Arthur Stuart Turner"s has me confused. Not an original bunch. His birthdate is showing, on someone else's family tree on another website, as 9 June 1893. He died here in the Montreal area (Verdun) in 1953. There seems to be a plethora of information to be found on the family while they lived in Canada, thanks to wonderful record keeping in Quebec, but we know nothing of their time in Scotland.

There is a tree on Ancestry Arthur Stewart Albin born 9/6/1893 married to a Euphemia parents Joseph Wilson Turner 1866-1902 Ellen Morrison Albin 1867-1954 have you seen it
-
That might be the tree I saw. I am hoping to find something more reliable than someone else's tree, just because last year I was thrilled to find a slew of info on someone's tree and then found a 3rd person, with the same family, whose information suddenly strayed away from what we had. I'll double check the tree again, however, in case it can at least point me in the right direction.

Hello All,
The census 1901. supplied by Monica, is the correct family ie Joseph Turner, with wife Ellen Morrison Albin, Ellen, was born 10/Sep/1867. Bridgeton, Glasgow, to parents William Albin, and Mary Higgins.
William Albin, married Mary Higgins, 17/March/1865. in Calton, Glasgow.
You will notice on the census Joseph Turner, is a Hairdresser, well i am quite sure this is how he met Ellen Morrison Albin, because Ellen's, father William Albin, was Hair Cutter, and Musical Instrument Dealer, who employed four men in 1881. at the same time Joseph Turner, is a young Hairdresser, living in the same area.
Joseph Turner, was born 01/ June/1866. Dromore, Tyrone, Ireland, to parents Joseph Turner, and Anne Black.
The Young Arthur Turner, aged 8 on Monica's, 1901 census appears to have been born Arthur Stewart Turner, 1893. Anderston, Glasgow.
The name Stewart, seems to come from Ellen Morrison Albin's, grandfather who was named Stewart Albin.
Regards,
Jonn.

Hello Again,
It looks very much that Ellen Morrison Albin, was named with her Grandmothers maiden Surname Morrison, ie it seems to me that Stewart Albin, was Married to a Eliza Morrison.
Stewart, and Eliza Morrison, came to Scotland, from Ireland, with their children born in Ireland some time just prior to 1857.
They had two sons born Scotland, ie James Albin, 20/Feb/1857. High Church, Glasgow, and John Albin, 23/Sep/1858. High Church, Glasgow.
So it is most likely that Stewart Albin, and his wife died in Scotland, after the itroduction of Statuary Death Registrations, began in Scotland, in 1855. so if you get their death certificates they should provide the parents names of both Stewart Albin, and Eliza Morrison, which would take you back a further generation.
Regards,
Jonn.

Thank you so much for all this wonderful information, Jonn.
Where is the best place to get information and/or certificates for events taking place in Scotland?
-
Hi,
I've just come back to this board after a couple of years so didn't realise that this correspondence was going on. I am an Albin by birth and Ellen Morrison Albin was an ancestor of mine. Her father was my great grandfather's brother. I'm assuming that you are a descendant of hers and I would be fascinated to know what information you have.

Hi Connie :)
Let me organize some of my things and we can compare notes. This is my husband's family, so I'm not as familiar with all the names as dates as those in my own family. It will be great if we can exchange information.
Kim
-
That would be great, Kim. Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Connie,
I came across a possible second marriage for Ellen Morrison Albin, in Montreal, after the death of Joseph Turner. Do you know anything about this?
-
Hi Kim,
Ellen Morrison Albin was widowed when she lived here in Glasgow. She married a Bernard Haney or Hanney the following year and they emigrated to Canada. I have an "Ancestry.com" app which gives what they call "hints" and one of them was about the Hanney family which had settled in Canada. Arthur Stuart Albin Turner seems to have been with them. I assumed that you knew about that because I assumed you were in Canada!
I hope this helps and that you have some information that you can give to me. I thought that someone who had emigrated May have left letters etc. that had been sent from home.
I presume you know about Ellen Albin's parents and siblings. If not, I can give you some info, because, as I said, she was my Great grandfather's niece and I have quite a lot about the family.

Any information you could give me would be great. I'd like to see what I can find about their time here in Canada, so some info that predates their arrival would probably help me when I go to our local archives.
-
I mentioned Ellen's remarriage to my husband (this is his family, not mine) and he knew nothing about it. I am going to see if hubby's dad or aunt were aware of it.
-
Hi Kim,
I'll get on to finding dates etc. to pass on to you. I don't know if you want to contact me through my own e-mail. It is * It might be easier than going back and forth through this site. And it looks as though your husband and I are related - albeit very distantly!!

I read this thread some years ago and was bored googling old family names and found it again. I'm a dependent of the Arthur Stewart Andrew Turner family tree. My father is one of them. I remember my mom saying our dad wanted my brother to have Stewart Andrew as 2 middle names like him but they settled on just the Andrew part.
From what I remember my father was named after his father, and his mother was named Euphemia. My father was born around 1945 he had a brother named Albin Turner and a sister I believe named Frederica. (But that could be wrong).
My father had a son probably in the 60s and I think his name was Eugene or Melvin? I'm not sure. Then he married my mom, popped out 3 more Turner children (myself, an older sister and younger brother) before my parents divorced and my father disappeared from our lives.
I've got a son of my own and know my mothers side of the family really well while knowing minimal about my fathers side. I'm excited to be able to connect with others about it.
